Books are the bricks from which we build the house of our knowledge. This is what the Slovak artist Matej Kren had in mind when he created his installation Book Cell at the Center for Contemporary Culture in Lisbon.
An unusual installation appears before the eyes of all visitors to the Center for Contemporary Culture in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. In one of the halls of this Center, there is a large octagon, the walls of which are made of books. The name of this installation from the Slovak artist Matej Kren is "Book Honeycomb".
The creation of this installation took several thousand books of various orientations in dozens of languages from around the world. All of them are borrowed from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and will be returned to the library immediately after the end of the Honeycomb Book. After all, books should be readable by people. This is their main purpose.
The main idea of this installation by Matej Kren is that all creations of human hands, including architectural ones, are created thanks to the knowledge gained from books. And therefore, one might say, they consist of books. And in this case - in the literal sense of this phrase.
