The essence of the conflict between Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson and Disney has become known. Film critic Evgeny Bazhenov, known as the blogger BadComedian, said that the reason lies in the online screenings of the film "Black Widow", which violate the terms of the contract with Johansson. In an interview with one of the TV channels, BadComedian said that Hollywood, in his opinion, is waiting for big changes.
BadComedian noted that the Marvel studio, which creates superhero blockbusters, usually signs contracts with actors for a series of films. He suggested that the contract with Johansson was awarded before the coronavirus pandemic. “Therefore, they signed like this, but the situation was different. Naturally, they adjust to reality. We considered that it would be profitable to publish both in cinemas and on online sites, because online sites are now the most important representatives of the industry. This leads to conflict situations,”the critic said.
Bazhenov suggested that in the future, actors will more often sue studios because of the old terms of contracts, and new contracts will be concluded differently.
Johansson sued Disney on July 29 for breach of contract. The lawsuit states that the contract with the actress provided for remuneration depending on the box office in cinemas and did not provide for the premiere online streaming of the film. Representatives of the company called the lawsuit unfounded, complaining that it "is oblivious to the dire and lasting impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on a global scale."
