In 2009, he won the hearts of the audience with an enchanting performance at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Violin mastery and unforgettable voice of the performer made him a real favorite. Alexander Rybak was then only 23 years old, and it seemed that new victories and achievements awaited him ahead. Now he is 35 and the path he has traveled since winning the competition was not at all as smooth as it once seemed. The stumbling block was the performer's serious problems.

In 2009, Alexander Rybak became a very popular person. They talked about him not only in Norway, but also in the countries of the post-Soviet space. Born in 1986 in Minsk, the performer was "his own", and his composition "Fairy Tale" actually deserved to take first place in the music charts.

True, Alexander's popularity was limited mainly to Norway, in other European countries the musician had not so many fans. However, he never complained about the lack of work before the pandemic. He appeared at concerts with a constant smile on his face and, it seemed, could be a symbol of well-being and satisfaction with life.

He was able to travel all over the world, his albums were popular and sold well, he took part in major theatrical projects and acted in films. And also two dreams of Alexander Rybak came true at once: he bought a luxurious apartment in the most prestigious district of Oslo Aker Brygge and staged the family musical "Trolle", based on the music and the book of Alexander himself. He also played the main role in "Trolle". In 2018, the performer took part in Eurovision for the second time, but his result was much worse than in 2009, he took only 15th place.

In 2020, the musician turned to specialists for help. As it turned out, he had been taking sleeping pills and antidepressants for a very long time, which led to a very real addiction. According to Alexander Rybak himself, the pills turned him into a weak and frightened person, affected the brain and had a negative effect on his physical health and general condition of the body. Addiction could not but affect his relationships with people, including loved ones, and besides, it played a role in the faded interest and will to live.

The treatment of the performer is rather difficult, he has bouts of depression and severe physical pain, on the most difficult days the only desire that arises is to lie down and laugh. But he believes in his own healing and patiently waits for his torment to completely end.

In the meantime, he had to come to terms even with the fact that his personal life was destroyed. For several years, the performer met with Julie Gaarud Holm, whom he met in a popular dating application.

The lovers traveled a lot, looked quite happy, but in 2019 they still parted on the initiative of Alexander. He admitted that he did not feel able to be a boyfriend, and mental health problems made him question his ability to become a father someday.

At the same time, the performer speaks only good words to Julia, calling her a girl who can read his soul. She made him happy, gave him incredible emotions, and he even dedicated his composition I Came to Love You to Julia.

But Alexander Rybak felt unable to deal with both health and personal life at once. He was torn between these two spheres and as a result made the decision to part with Julie. The first trip without her was painful and painful, but the musician felt: he did the right thing. Fortunately, Julie made the decision of Alexander and became a real friend to him. Let there be no more romantic relationship between them, but there is a strong friendship and a desire not to lose each other.

The exhausting struggle of the singer with his own addiction is not over yet, and therefore every day for him turns into a test and overcoming pain. But he sincerely believes that doctors will help him get rid of his addiction, and he can return to normal life.

Alexander Rybak spoke about his problems with only one goal: to help people like himself. He emphasizes in every possible way the importance of the specialists who provided him with serious help and support, thereby making it clear to other people who find themselves in a similar situation: it is not a shame to go to doctors, and the treatment gives results.

From May 17 to June 6, 2021, a joint concert tour of Alexander Rybak with Hanne Krog took place, which became the first since the beginning of the pandemic and the first after he stopped taking pills. Ahead of him are recordings of television concerts, and at the end of the year - a big Christmas tour in Norway. But the main thing that the performer is waiting for is the final deliverance from addiction and further happy life without pills.

At one time, the members of the Buranovskie Babushki collective took second place at Eurovision 2011, but they became the favorites of the public. This allowed an extraordinary team to go on tour, but with the money received as fees, they ordered in a special way and admitted that it was precisely this goal that made them go on stage in due time.
