An extraordinary feeling arises when viewing the artist's rural landscapes, through which he seems to plunge the viewer into his own world, filled not only with beauty, but also with extraordinary tranquility and harmony. Following the traditions of realism, the author does not seek to copy nature, but reinterprets it creatively and conveys it to the viewer as he sees it himself.

And besides, it is probably unnecessary to repeat how close and dear to the heart of the Russian viewer are the motifs depicting magnificent natural landscapes, which at all times found a lively response in his soul.

Retro painting

There is another strong point in the work of Alexander Shevelev that makes his painting unique and unforgettable - this is a series of city landscapes dedicated to Rybinsk in the pre-revolutionary period. In this cycle, the painter tried to reflect that, sunk into oblivion, the atmosphere of a provincial city, which was one of the most beautiful on the Volga. And also to convey to the viewer the romanticism of a bygone era and the seemingly lost way of life of the townspeople of that period.

To see the historical and artistic in the everyday and everyday, and then reflect this in his works, that is, revive old parks, avenues and streets, fill them with crowded bustle and life - this is the artist's task.

It was in these works that Alexander Shevelev managed to preserve the recognizability and documentary nature of the objects depicted. He seemed to have plunged the viewer into a bygone era and told fascinating nostalgic stories about the life of the city streets of the Russian province.

And at the same time, Alexander Shevelev supplemented his retrospective creative searches with artistic images, which brought a touch of romanticism of the past era into his works. And a certain decorativeness inherent in this series of works allowed the master to fill the picture plane with a multitude of details and various shades of color as much as possible, which gave a certain solemn sound to his creations.

And finally, I would like to show the reader several delightful still lifes by Alexander Shevelev, made in a completely different style. It was in this genre, relying on the European school of realistic painting, and in particular on the school of Flemish masters who worked in the 16-17 century, that the artist created amazing realistic paintings complex in composition.
