Alexander Shevelev today is one of the most talented artists in Russia. His works are executed in the best traditions of the school of Russian realistic painting, Western European impressionism, as well as the school of Dutch masters. Therefore, contemplating the artist's virtual gallery, the viewer never ceases to be amazed at the artist's multifaceted skill, working in different styles, and that, so wide is the range of his work, revealed in several genres. This is exactly the case when you don't even think that the paintings presented in the gallery were painted by the hand of the same master.
A few words about the painter
Alexander Viktorovich Shevelev (born in 1964) is from the Novgorod region. Behind the master is the Yaroslavl Art School and the Leningrad Institute of Painting. Since 1996, the artist has been a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. Lives and works in the city of Rybinsk.
And it is not at all surprising that the master's works are highly valued by art lovers and collectors from many countries. A considerable part of the artist's works are kept in the Rybinsk Art Museum, in several museums of the region, as well as in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. His creations are an adornment of private collections of Russian collectors in Moscow, Rybinsk, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, as well as abroad - in Germany, USA, Finland, Sweden, Holland.
Be different while remaining yourself
The artistic direction of Alexander Shevelev's work is easel painting in its traditional manifestation, namely, realistic, impressionistic and historical-romantic styles, which the artist masterfully applied in his landscapes, still lifes, household and historical paintings.
Curiously, the artist persistently developed his multifaceted talent from his student days, not only learning the basics of mastery in the painting classes of the institute, he polished his skills in the halls of the Hermitage, devoting almost all his free time to copying works of world painting.
It was on the examples of the creations of the great masters of the past that he learned to accurately reproduce a drawing, compositional techniques, and a variety of color solutions. Hence, Alexander developed a reverent attitude towards classics and academic traditions, as well as towards some innovative painting directions. Hence, such a wide range in the choice of genres.
And now, after years, the venerable painter has excellent command of the techniques and techniques of painting landscapes, both natural and urban; still lifes - complex in compositional and figurative and colorful solutions, as well as canvases of the plot-historical genre, giving viewers an idea of the pre-revolutionary era of Russia, directly about his hometown of Rybinsk.
Rural landscape - serene harmony in every stroke of the brush
An extraordinary feeling arises when viewing the artist's rural landscapes, through which he seems to plunge the viewer into his own world, filled not only with beauty, but also with extraordinary tranquility and harmony. Following the traditions of realism, the author does not seek to copy nature, but reinterprets it creatively and conveys it to the viewer as he sees it himself.
The viewers are no less impressed by the harmonious coloring of the artist's palette, as well as his masterful ability to convey the effect of air space, light and shadow in an impressionistic manner.
And besides, it is probably unnecessary to repeat how close and dear to the heart of the Russian viewer are the motifs depicting magnificent natural landscapes, which at all times found a lively response in his soul.
Retro painting
There is another strong point in the work of Alexander Shevelev that makes his painting unique and unforgettable - this is a series of city landscapes dedicated to Rybinsk in the pre-revolutionary period. In this cycle, the painter tried to reflect that, sunk into oblivion, the atmosphere of a provincial city, which was one of the most beautiful on the Volga. And also to convey to the viewer the romanticism of a bygone era and the seemingly lost way of life of the townspeople of that period.
To see the historical and artistic in the everyday and everyday, and then reflect this in his works, that is, revive old parks, avenues and streets, fill them with crowded bustle and life - this is the artist's task.
It was in these works that Alexander Shevelev managed to preserve the recognizability and documentary nature of the objects depicted. He seemed to have plunged the viewer into a bygone era and told fascinating nostalgic stories about the life of the city streets of the Russian province.
And at the same time, Alexander Shevelev supplemented his retrospective creative searches with artistic images, which brought a touch of romanticism of the past era into his works. And a certain decorativeness inherent in this series of works allowed the master to fill the picture plane with a multitude of details and various shades of color as much as possible, which gave a certain solemn sound to his creations.
Still life painting in the style of the old masters
And finally, I would like to show the reader several delightful still lifes by Alexander Shevelev, made in a completely different style. It was in this genre, relying on the European school of realistic painting, and in particular on the school of Flemish masters who worked in the 16-17 century, that the artist created amazing realistic paintings complex in composition.
As you can see, in these works of the author there is a radically different approach, style, technique, color and artistic techniques, in no way inferior to his other works of the artist.
Such is he, a different and extraordinary artist from Rybinsk - Alexander Shevelev, capable of catching the eye and touching the strings of the soul of even a very demanding viewer.
Someone loves realism, someone likes impressionism, and some recognize only the avant-garde … And this is not surprising - the worldview of the modern viewer changes not only over time. Many people think it will be interesting to look into our virtual gallery and see multi-layered paintings by the modern Moscow avant-garde artist Sergei Chesnokov-Ladyzhensky.

One million coffee beans. One World, One Family, One Coffee: another mosaic of Saimir Strati
This Albanian maestro, multiple "record holder" for mosaics, Saimir Strati, has already been met by the readers of Culturology.Ru on the pages of the site. It was he who created a painting of 300,000 screws and a portrait of Leonardo da Vinci from nails, and also laid out images from corks and toothpicks. And the new mosaic, on which the author is working today, probably cost him more than one hundred cups of strong aromatic coffee, since he lays it out from a million coffee beans
