In addition, the unusual "musical instrument" was enjoyed by the residents of the city and numerous tourists. So Bašić's installation instantly became one of the city's modern landmarks. Whether Basic's installation can be called a full-fledged musical instrument is an open question, because the presence of a musician interacting with the structure is not provided. By the principle of sound production, however, Basic's work most closely resembles an organ.

Thirty-five scaled pipes, hidden under the marble steps of the embankment, have special openings for sound output. The movement of water and air creates unique sound vibrations, sometimes very harmonious and pleasing to the ear.

In 2008, another work of the master was installed next to the marine organ - the installation "The Greeting to the Sun", consisting of three hundred multilayer plates, under which there are solar panels. “Hello, sun”, which is how the name of the interactive brainchild of Bašić is translated from English, interacts with the amazing instrument through original lighting effects. According to the author's idea, the glow of the structure adjusts to the playing of the instrument, constantly changing the intensity. In the evenings, complementary installations look especially impressive.

Nikola Basic was born in 1946 on the island of Murter in central Croatia. Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in Sarajevo. He currently lives and works in Zadar.
