San Francisco-based architect, artist and mom Tiffanie Turner makes impressive-sized flowers from delicate pieces of craft paper. She cuts, stretches and scrupulously adjusts layers of multi-colored paper to each other until, right before our eyes, delicate and surprisingly similar to real flower heads bloom from them.
With great precision and patience, the artist copies the natural beauty and elegant symmetry of a real inflorescence. “Experiments with scale play an important role in everything I do,” explains Turner, “and the organized chaos and natural rhythm make flower heads a great subject to study.”
Turner's paper flowers are enormous - ranging in size from two to three feet in diameter, and each takes 35 to 80 hours to complete for Tiffany. Her current exhibition, Heads, is currently at the Rare Device Gallery in San Francisco.
