The beginning of Lina Braknite's career was truly brilliant. In addition to Suok in "Three Fat Men", she played two more main roles: in "Girl and Echo" by Arunas Zhebrunas and in "Dubravka" by Radomir Vasilevsky. Later she starred in several more, but not so successful, films, and then disappeared from the screens forever. Why did the girl, whom many predicted a brilliant career in cinema, abandoned this idea and chose a profession that had nothing to do with cinema?
Successful start
She was born in 1952 in Vilnius and, like all children, went to school. True, the girl did not even think about becoming an actress. But once the director Arunas Zhebrunas came to a physical education lesson at the school where Lina Braknite studied, looking for an actress for the main role in his film "Girl and Echo" ("The Last Day of Holidays") based on Yuri Nagibin's short story "Echo". Of the many schoolgirls, he immediately singled out Lina, a fragile, very romantic girl.
When the film was released, Lina Braknite became a celebrity. At that time, however, she had to endure not only the first minutes of fame, but also a certain misunderstanding on the part of her classmates. At first, Lina was even upset when one of her classmates condemningly threw her a phrase that she herself, for any money, did not even agree to flicker in the frame half-dressed.
However, Lina did not have time to get upset for a long time. She needed to catch up with the school curriculum, and a new filming proposal was not long in coming. Just two years after her film debut, Lina Braknite went back to filming. This time she was to play the brave girl Suok in Alexei Batalov's film Three Fat Men.
The shooting, according to the memories of the young actress, was rather difficult. She had to withstand serious loads, learn circus tricks, patiently listen to the remarks of Alexei Batalov, who was not very restrained in character. And in the evenings, Lina Braknite sat down at her textbooks in order to keep up with the school curriculum because of her work.
After "Three Fat Men" the girl was invited to the main role in the film "Dubravka". It is from this picture that the actress is still recognized on the streets. And then there were two more works of Lina Braknite in the cinema - "The Sea of Our Hope" and "The Last Fort", but they were not as successful as the previous films with her participation.
At that moment, it seemed that a girl with such a brilliant experience would definitely enter the theater and continue her film career.
Own way
At first, Lina actually thought about becoming an actress. But she categorically did not want to enter VGIK, because for this she would have to leave her hometown for a very long time. The idea of entering the acting department of the Vilnius Conservatory, she also quickly put aside. It was all about the teachers who were taking the course that year. According to Lina Braknite, she was immediately told: they are not too loyal to those who already had experience in cinema as a child. And the girl considered it a sign of fate.
The fact is that the young actress was seriously fond of ancient history, and therefore entering the history faculty of Vilnius University seemed quite logical. After graduating from the university, she worked for 20 years in the library of the Institute of History of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and then began to help her husband, a famous photographer and publisher in Lithuania Raimondas Paknis.
The happiness of every day
Today Lina Braknite does not regret at all that she once gave up her film career. She knows how to enjoy every new day and enjoy the moment. At one time, Raimondas Paknis had to endure a rivalry with the fans of the young actress, but, as Lina Braknite herself says, he managed to bypass everyone and completely take possession of her heart.
Together they raised a wonderful daughter Victoria, whom her mother named after her heroine in the very first film where she starred - "The Girl and the Echo". The spouses and their daughter traveled all over the world, were able to see many unusual places.
Today Lina Braknite enjoys a quiet life surrounded by relatives and friends, often communicates with her daughter and grandson. And she recalls her film experience with a slight smile, but without any regret that she has chosen a completely different path in her profession and in life.
Yuri Olesha named his heroine Suok and dedicated the tale "Three Fat Men" to his wife Olga. Friends of the writer saw a completely different girl in the form of a revived doll, Seraphim, light, airy, but so fickle.
