There is one place in the South Pacific that is extremely different from any other place on Earth. It is called point Nemo. In fact, the designation "point" is only conditional. In fact, this place represents an area of 37 million square meters. km. It is equivalent to 10% of the total area of the Pacific Ocean. It is located in the center of the South Pacific Gyre, an extra-large system of ocean currents.
Point Nemo is also a kind of "inaccessible pole" of the ocean. In view of such remoteness, these places are a real cemetery for spaceships. These are the dumping sites of spacecraft, which, due to their size, cannot completely burn up in the atmosphere.
In December 2015, the FS Sonne exploration vessel embarked on a 7,000 km expedition from Chile to New Zealand via SPG. On board were scientists from the Institute of Marine Microbiology. Max Planck. Despite the fact that the study ended in 2016, scientists are still publishing its results. So, they confirmed the fact that from the point of view of marine biology, point Nemo is practically a dead desert.
There are several factors that contribute to the lifelessness of this region. First, the vast distances to land and the great depth of the ocean. For organisms living in the water column, the usual land and seabed are the main sources of food.
Secondly, point Nemo is isolated from the rest of the ocean by strong currents that impede the supply of the necessary substances to support life. Finally, the surface layer receives a large amount of ultraviolet radiation, which interferes with life.

It sounds incredible and ridiculous, but the Nemo point was known even before its discovery. Thus, Howard Lovecraft, the famous American mystic writer of the early twentieth century and the author of what literary critics define as an independent subgenre of "Lovecraftian horror", in his story "The Call of Cthulhu" (1926) as the geographical coordinates of the sunken island city where imaginary terrible events, indicates latitude and longitude data that are very close to the real point of Nemo.
In 1997, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that experts had recorded mysterious sounds in the area of point Nemo. The world media quickly spread the sensation: according to the BBC, the sound was even sharper than the low-frequency sounds emitted by blue whales. For a long time, enthusiastic scientists tried to find signs of an alien civilization, mystical phenomena or other worlds in these places. Many were sure: under the layer of the purest water of point Nemo, a terrible and ominous Kraken lives.
But after a more detailed investigation, NOAA has come up with a rather prosaic explanation for this strange phenomenon. It turned out to be the sound of sea ice breaking and cracking, emitting a powerful low frequency sound.

The discovery of a previously unknown species of crabs near Point Nemo in 2005 was reported by Stephen Donto, an American oceanographer at the University of Rhode Island. This Kiwa hirsuta (also known as the "Yeti crab") is a 15 cm decapod crustacean that lives near hydrothermal vents in the South Pacific. The first (and so far the only) individual (male) was recovered from a depth of more than 2 km. The media massively asked the question: could other sea monsters, which Howard Lovecraft described in his work, exist at the bottom of point Nemo. Stephen D'Hondt does not give an unambiguous answer, since this is unlikely, but the fact that the polar waters of this inaccessible place in the ocean can bring new discoveries to the scientific world is a fact.
