The foreign edition of The Independent reported that a treasure was found in Germany, which, according to German historians, may refer to the legendary “treasures of the Nibelungs”. The treasure was found by a German amateur archaeologist, who, immediately after discovering and extracting the treasure, decided to share the sensational news with the scientific community and respectfully returned to Germany everything that he had extracted from its bowels.
According to preliminary estimates, the treasure found by the archaeologist is estimated at no less than one million euros. The treasure contained many gold, silver and bronze items. Several bowls, figurines, bracelets, and other luxury items were found. Scientists were particularly interested in the found statuettes, in their opinion, they could serve as an adornment for the throne of the ruler. The found values are dated 406-407 AD, it was during this period that the decline and fall of the legendary Roman Empire began.
Despite the miraculous find, the reckless amateur archaeologist did not manage to rejoice for a long time. The German authorities almost immediately after receiving the treasures discovered by the archaeologist, a criminal case was initiated against him and is now under investigation. The archaeologist was charged with the fact that, in the opinion of the authorities, he did not transfer all of the treasures found to the Department of Culture. Local law enforcement officials believe that the most valuable items were sold by an amateur archaeologist to a private collection, or worse, to the black market.
Another unpleasant moment for the amateur archaeologist was that the excavations were carried out by him without observing all the necessary norms and requirements. As a result, the excavation site was badly damaged. Scientists are concerned that, due to amateur excavations in this place, they will no longer be able to obtain valuable information about the historical and cultural layers. It is fair to add that new excavations at this site will be much more difficult.
