It turns out that in the American city of Pittsburgh there is bridge, named in honor of the classic pop art artist Andy Warhol in 2005. And recently a group of artists launched a project Knit-the-bridgewhose purpose is to create knitted jewelry for this huge engineering facility.
For more than a year, there has been a movement in the world called “urban knitting”, whose members create knitted clothes for various elements of the city landscape - trees, poles and even cars.
One of the most ambitious actions of the participants in this unusual movement took place recently in the city of Pittsburgh in the US state of Pennsylvania. The local yarn lovers called their "colleagues" from their country, gathered in a group of 1,800 people and knitted new "clothes" for the Andy Warhol Bridge in the center of the above-mentioned metropolis.
This particular object was chosen by the organizers of the action for the reason that it is the only bridge in the United States of America named after a visual artist. Volunteers, gathered from all over the country by the art association Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh, created hundreds or even thousands of square meters of crocheted and knitted items, which they then clothed the specified bridge: its railings, supporting columns, pillars, concrete beams and even wires power lines.
This knitted installation will run on Andy Warhol Bridge until mid-September, after which members of the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh will strip the yarn and donate it to social needs - hospitals, orphanages, homeless shelters, animal rescue groups, and more.
