On March 22, at the age of 70, a theater and film actor died Lembit Ulfsak … He was one of the most sought-after Estonian actors in Soviet cinema, his most famous roles were Paganel in the film "In Search of Captain Grant" and Mistay Hey out "Mary Poppins, goodbye!".
After graduating from the acting faculty of the Tallinn State Conservatory in 1970, he worked in the youth theater of the Estonian SSR, and then moved to the troupe of the Academic Drama Theater. V. Kingiseppa. In 1985 he became an actor at the Tallinnfilm film studio, his debut was in the film The Tale of the Chekist, and the image of Thiel Ulenspiegel in The Legend of Thiel brought all-Union popularity. In this film, he played with Evgeny Leonov, whom he has since considered "the father of his organics." Leonov called him "Lamblya" and taught the basics of acting.
His repertoire range was very wide, the actor created vivid and memorable images in the films Death Under Sail, Arabella - the Pirate's Daughter, The Secret of Blackbirds, TASS Authorized to Declare, etc. work in children's films. The extravagant Paganel and the charismatic Mr. Hey fell in love not only with young viewers, but also with an adult audience. Ulfsak later said about these roles: “It was my acting happiness. Without these pictures, my film biography would be very pale."
Although he himself did not consider these roles to be the best in his film career, the actor still could not deny their success: “The painting“In Search of Captain Pomegranate”brought me popularity: I remember how they began to recognize me, for a young man it was a new feeling. And Mary Poppins was a hit. I would not say that this is an artistic success, but the film is still popular, and the songs from it are already classics. Several years ago I once entered a restaurant, the musicians saw me - and they started playing "Thirty-three cows" … Although I did not sing myself, but simply moved my lips to the soundtrack, the audience thinks that I am singing the songs. But the most interesting film for me was, perhaps, "In Search of Captain Grant" by Stanislav Govorukhin: great company, travel. And the result was very nice, in my opinion."
When in the 1990s there was a crisis in cinema, Lembit Ulfsak began to appear on the screen less and less, and then the Academic Drama Theater returned. after that he, according to his confession, "communicated little with the cinema, except perhaps as a spectator." Although he did not deny the successes of modern cinema and recognized the successes of his colleagues in the workshop: for example, he highly appreciated the work of Yevgeny Mironov in the films The Idiot and The Apostle, enjoyed watching the TV series Liquidation, films 12, Return and Cuckoo ".
Lembit Ulfsak was married twice. His son from his first marriage, Johan, followed in his footsteps and became an actor in theater and cinema. In his second marriage, he had two daughters, one of them chose journalism, and the other is studying at an art institute. In an interview, the actor confessed: “The greatest joy is that, by centimeter, I came to the simplest philosophical truth: in life you have to push the oars of your boat. The biggest charge I get from my family. I think that the only human creativity that has at least some philosophical justification is children."
