According to Mari Kasurinen, she has always been interested in popular culture and pop art. And she always wanted to change and transform something. And after some deliberation, the girl decided that this "something" would be toys. So, the idea came up to create images on the basis of toys that are popular in modern culture. But what is the best way to bring it to life? In search of the perfect foundation, Marie tried many toys: Barbie dolls, Action Man, tin soldiers, plastic animals … Nothing worked. And then the girl remembered the pink Little Pony, which she had as a child. It was the perfect hit!
“Little Ponies” are so simple, explains Mari Kasurinen of her choice. - They have no gender, and the fact that I can embody a human character in the form of a pony delights me. I am not limited in anything and can freely do whatever I want with pop icons. " By analogy with the original name of the toy, Marie leaves the word "Baby" and adds the name of the new character to it. Her first work was "Little Batman", and among the most beloved the author calls "Little Edward Scissorhands."
Marie's creative process consists of several stages. First, she chooses the character she wants to work with. Then he chooses from the “Little Pony” line the toy that best matches the given image. After that, it is the turn of the changes itself: the author starts with the hairstyle, and ends by painting the figure and coating it with varnish. The first "Babies" Mari Kasurinen portrayed mainly cartoon characters and films: Superman, Catwoman, Cthulhu, Stormtrooper, Captain Jack Sparrow … Later they were joined by real characters: Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Damien Hirst, Lady Gaga and others.
