Few people now use typewriters - they have been successfully replaced by computers, which, in terms of typing, are more convenient, faster, more economical, and have much greater functionality. But an American artist Tyree Callahan nevertheless urges not to abandon this seemingly outdated device. He offers using typewriters … paint.
Of course, Tyree Callahan is not the first to come up with drawing on a typewriter. On the site Kulturologia. Ru we have already talked about the work of Paul Smith and Keira Rathbone, who create their paintings with this device. Another thing is that Callahan proposes to paint color pictures in this way! For this, he created a special modification of typewriters - The Chromatic Typewriter.
After all, if Paul Smith and Kira Rathbon draw on the most ordinary typewriters, typing on them the most common symbols available there, then Tyree Callahan acts differently. The Chromatic Typewriter does not print numbers and letters, but colors and shades. And even on her keyboard, not symbols are depicted, but different colors, including white and black. Moreover, changing the shade of the same color can be done by pressing the button for transition to the upper case on this keyboard.
Drawing with The Chromatic Typewriter is similar to drawing with a brush or pencil on canvas or paper. The artist applies the desired color to the place where it is needed. But this only happens with the help of automatic strikers, on which paint is applied.
Tyree Callahan himself draws pictures in this way and invites anyone to do the same. He sells The Chromatic Typewriter online. The cost of one copy of a typewriter for drawing is from 3 to 5 thousand US dollars.
Created by The Chromatic Typewriter based on the classic 1937 Underwood typewriter. She paints with oil paints.
