The Maldives are beautiful in themselves. Hot sun, gentle sea and endless coastline. But there is another attraction of the Maldives - bioluminescent phytoplankton. This unique algae is also known as red tide. Local residents claim that swimming in such waters causes a slight discomfort, therefore, such a coastline is most often deserted. As darkness falls, bioluminescent phytoplankton begins to glow, illuminating the coast with a fantastic blue light. Taiwanese photographer Will Ho captured this phenomenon.
The unique glow is the result of a stressful situation on bioluminescent phytoplankton. Under the influence of coastal waves, algae begin to glow and illuminate the coast with their light, as if thousands of fireflies were scattered over the wet sand. The same effect can be achieved by stepping on a shore strewn with bioluminescent phytoplankton with bare feet. As a result, a luminous trail remains on the sand.
For those who, for some reason, cannot get to the Maldives, we can advise you to start an aquarium and arrange a small underwater city for fish in it. Moreover, today underwater landscape design is a fairly popular phenomenon, and designers even take part in competitions on this topic.
