Probably, Alexis Anne Mackenzie's collages will primarily be of interest to those who know English well or a little, because for them such works will become a kind of riddle-rebuses. And for those who do not know English, the artist's collages will also be interesting for their floral and plant composition. After all, to admit, at first you pay attention only to the abundance of a variety of flowers, which intertwine, forming a colorful bouquet, and you do not notice at all that the plants here serve as letters that form whole words and phrases.
Alexis Anne Mackenzie's dreamy collages combine Max Ernst's Dada style with botanical elements to create truly imposing and beautiful floral scenarios. Using flowers, plants, tree twigs, figures of animals, people, the artist presents to the attention of the viewer works that are completely made by hand. And no digital magic.
Alexis Anna Mackenzie says that she was interested in combining text and art, to introduce text into art. The phrases and themes used in collages are designed in the form of landscapes, they touch life moments, feelings, stages and turning points of life, a person's growing up, death.
Alexis Anna Mackenzie studied art history and visual arts in Boston. After graduation, she moved to San Francisco, where she currently lives. Her collages, which she has been doing since her school years, can be seen in many galleries and prints.
