Video: Metallic Lace by Cal Lane

Cal Lane, 41, claims to have a passion for creating art from objects that people usually ignore. And he does it in a rather unusual way for a woman: using plasma cutting of metal. Piles of scrap metal in the hands of the craftswoman are transformed into works with stunning lace patterns - it's worth a look!
Cal Lane started her career as a hairdresser, however, according to the artist herself, the blowtorch appealed to her much more than scissors. Without thinking twice, the woman combined her love for beauty and desire to work with metal in her new art. And as a material for creativity, Cal chose such mundane things as shovels, wheelbarrows, dumpsters or old oil drums.
“I love working as a visual devil's advocate, using contradictions to find my own way to create images,” says Cal. "Oppositions in my work lead to balance - just like collision - which is achieved by comparing and contrasting ideas and materials." But what can I say about the work, even if Cal Lane speaks of herself as a person who “always has opposites in his head”.
Cal's work is often compared to lace. The craftswoman herself says that such a metaphor intrigues her more and more. She associates lace with concealment and demonstration at the same time: like a concealing curtain or open lingerie. One can only wonder how Cal manages to turn bulky, huge and hard pieces of metal into her favorite weightless lace.
Cal Lane is originally from Canada and currently resides in New York (USA). You can see more of the author's work on the website.

Stairway to Heaven: Modern Sculpture by Danny Lane
Danny Lane's "Staircase" is a modern steel and glass sculpture that suddenly breaks off in a clear sky, leaving the viewer bewildered: this staircase has a beginning, this staircase has no end. A monument to all initiatives that are not destined to end is located in Sweden, near Borgholm Castle. Contemporary sculpture shimmers and plays in the sun as if it were made of ice
