In fact, graffiti is not quite a legal form of fine art, considered by law enforcement agencies as hooliganism. But there are some artists who do not hide their identity, but, on the contrary, flaunt it. For example, an American of Ukrainian descent Maya Hayuk, an exhibition of psychedelic murals currently taking place at the Brooklyn Cinders Gallery.
True, Maya Gayuk, unlike most street artists, does not “spoil” her walls and fences with her creativity. She paints on wooden or cardboard surfaces, which can then be transported and exhibited in different parts of the world. Thanks to this, the works of Maya Gajuk were shown in art galleries in the USA, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, China, Chile.
In addition, the work of Maya Gayuk differs from the work of other similar artists in its unique style. They are psychedelic. In the works of this artist there are many bright colors that play, intersect, merge, creating unique images. Maya Gayuk herself declares that she chose such an unusual style for her works in order to get rid of templates, create psychedelic zones with her creativity, “where is space and time collides to form new wormholes."
In her graffiti, the artist, despite their abstractness, tries to use Ukrainian folk motives, holograms (like the art duo carnovsky in works from the RGB series), traditional motives of American Indians and many other elements of the world cultural heritage. You just need to learn how to read them.
An exhibition of psychedelic graffiti by Maya Gajuk takes place at the Cinders Gallery in Brooklyn from November 20 to December 22, 2010.
