Briton Damien Hirst, one of the most famous contemporary artists in the world, loves to shock the audience of his works, to evoke mixed feelings in the public, combining delight and disgust. His new work is painting Capaneusconsisting of hundreds of dead insects.
Damien Hirst, in his work, often acts as a scientific researcher studying various manifestations of wildlife. Now he will make a naked pregnant woman in a cut, then a flying horse without skin. His new work is devoted to insects.
The name of the new painting by Hirst Capaneus is the name of the legendary Greek hero Capaneus, who was so strong, furious and fast in battle that the enemies could normally see him only after Zeus struck this warrior with lightning for excessive vanity, before that they were afraid.
So insects are such creatures that drive into fear almost half of the world's population, people lose their composure from just one species of bugs and spiders.
Damien Hirst's painting Capaneus is dedicated to this fear. He created it from several hundred, if not thousands, dead insects and arachnids, using this unusual material to draw a special circular ornament.
Spectators can look at all this ornament as a whole and separate parts as much as they like, without any fear of the representatives of the animal world presented in Capaneus.
The Capaneus painting is also an allusion to Dante's Divine Comedy, symbolizing the seventh circle of Hell (there, by the way, among other sinners, is the blasphemer Capaneus himself).
Capaneus is only Damien Hirst's first entry in the Entomology series. That is, in the near future, one should expect his other paintings, created from insects, spiders and other small unpleasant living creatures.
