How can you express your sympathy and loyalty to a person? Probably by giving him some kind of gift. I think it doesn't even matter what you give, it is important with what feelings. Some believe that the size of the gift matters …
Someone named Jammer Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada felt that Barack Obama deserved much more attention than he is receiving now. And this does not mean just global attention, but a single province - Catalonia. The man wished to express sympathy to the current President of the United States in this way - by painting his portrait on a 2.5-acre meadow (and this, for a minute, is almost 10 thousand square meters = 1 hectare). Incredibly, even despite such a huge size of the picture, it came out very similar. During the work, materials such as sand and gravel were used, and the painting itself was named "Hope". And about 650 tons of sand was spent, just think about this figure! In this way, the author put all his and his people hope in this president.
It is interesting that the picture was created even before the 2008 elections. I do not know how Obama himself reacted to such a gesture, but any other person would be happy, I think so. In the end, a lot of efforts were made, now the inhabitants of Barcelona and all of Catalonia have to wait - whether their hope will be justified. Of course, it is difficult to attribute this to art, rather, to architecture. Although the goal here is quite noble, both the idea and its implementation really deserve to be called art, at least a part of it. After all, castles are not all that can be made of sand, and we are not talking about gravel at all. Nevertheless, this still requires imagination, and talent, and skill.
