Not only in Brazil they arrange payphone parades on the streets of the city, decorating and painting nondescript telephone booths. This summer the company British Telecom initiated a similar art project in London called BT Artbox … The aim of the art project is the creative redesign of the famous red telephone booth, which has already become almost a national symbol of Great Britain. Many famous designers volunteered to take part in the art project, including such masters as Sir Peter Blake, Zaha Hadid, Giles Deacon, Corrie Nilson, Nina Campbell and others. Each of them developed his own project of a decorative telephone booth with the only condition to preserve the authentic form of the original as much as possible, to leave it recognizable. And since June 18, more than 80 fashionable designer phone booths have lined up in Trafalgar Square, in the heart of the British capital.

The designers did their best, and the visitors of the exhibition were not disappointed, because the authors of the projects managed to turn traditional telephone booths into miniatures of famous buildings and structures, such as Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower, turn them into a sofa and turn them upside down, put them inside a giraffe, entangle from all sides with flowers, vines and cobwebs … And even cut into pieces and equip with a mechanism from a music box, inserting the appropriate key into the door. You can walk for hours between the rows of creative telephone booths and wonder, admire, and rejoice.

This exhibition can be seen in Trafalgar Square until July 16. After the festival closes, the designer phone booths will be auctioned off. The proceeds will be used for good purposes, in particular, they will be donated to a children's charity Childline, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
