The fashion industry often takes inspiration for new shows in national costumes of various peoples. For its Autumn 2017 collection, Dior also took national motives of one of the European nations as a basis, but did not comment on this at all. Taking ideas without mentioning the source is, to put it mildly, unethical. What did the "plagiarism victims" do? They decided to restore justice!
For its Pre-Fall-2017 collection, Dior has created several looks that unambiguously evoke associations with the national clothing of a small region in Romania called Bihor. This exclusive Dior apparel sells for an unimaginable price tag of € 30,000 per coat. However, the people from Bihor, who created their clothes for generations and carefully kept all the patterns and secrets of embroidery, did not see a single cent from this money.
Given the solidity of the Dior company and its undoubted influence on the fashion world, even the mere mention of the source of inspiration would be enough for the residents of Bihor. When they saw the photographs of Dior clothing, they instantly recognized their own work. And, of course, they were offended that their ideas were used, but they did not even receive simple gratitude for them.
But without waiting for justice, one Romanian clothing store Beau Monde decided to restore justice on its own. They launched a campaign to sell local craftsmen's clothes by creating free advertisements and publicizing them on the Internet.
With this campaign, dubbed Bihor Couture, the store wants to help Bihor craftsmen find a new market, find new customers and prove to the whole world that authentic beautiful things do not necessarily cost fabulous sums. All proceeds from sales of money will go directly to the creators of these clothes.
We wrote about plagiarism in painting in our article. "Everything new is well stolen old."
