A photograph was found, which presumably captures Van Gogh at an already quite respectable age. The French expert Serge Plantureau came to the conclusion that it was the famous Dutch post-impressionist artist who was shot in the picture. He was also able to identify everyone sitting around the artist. It is curious that until recently it was believed that only two pictures with the image of Van Gogh have survived to this day, both of which were taken in his youth.
A number of foreign experts, in particular, experts from the Van Gogh Museum, doubted that it was Van Gogh that was captured in the photo. According to opponents of the first version, in the picture the specified person does not at all look like the famous artist. Moreover, it is reliably known that Van Gogh hated being photographed and always refused to do it.
Now the controversial image is being analyzed by other experts. Serge Plantureau received it from an unknown female collector who handed over the photograph for examination. For obvious reasons, the collector chose to remain incognito. It is known that if the photo is authenticated and there is evidence that it has Van Gogh, the photo will be put up for auction. The initial cost will be 120-150 thousand euros. The dimensions of the photo are 88x199 mm.
The main thing that opponents of the version about the capture of Van Gogh in the photo refer to is that a man similar to him has a different shape of the skull. The suspect's chin is somewhat wider and more powerful, as is the face.
In addition to Van Gogh, two more artists were identified in the picture - Emile Bernard and Arnold Koning. In addition, the picture definitely captures politician Felix Duval and artist André Antoine. Photo taken in Paris by an unknown artist.
