The Soli Brug Gallery (Norway) has lost the engraving of the great Rembrandt, which it acquired from a British art dealer. The cost of the painting is estimated at 8, 6 thousand dollars. According to Reuters, the work of the great Dutch master was sent by regular mail, and as a result, the package did not reach the addressee.
The Soli Brug Gallery is located in Gricker, 80 km from Oslo. As it became known, in order to save money, the gallery, as a rule, does not use courier services and does not pay insurance for the transportation of works of art. In the case of the reproduction of Rembrandt, they also decided not to resort to the services of a courier and used the services of regular mail.
Ole Derje, head of the Soli Brug Gallery, said that they received a notification that they could pick up the package, but when he arrived at the post office, it was not there.
The post office administration apologized for the incident and advised the gallery to use more reliable means of forwarding. The post office is ready to reimburse the gallery for only $ 86-170.
The missing engraving is "Lieven Willems van Coppenol, Master of Calligraphy", which was created by Rembrandt in 1658. The name of the art dealer to whom it belonged is not disclosed. The Soli Brug Gallery exhibits works by Goya, Rembrandt, Dali, Munch and Dürer.
