Sometimes art causes a lot of controversy: about politics, inconsistency with patterns of behavior or appearance. But very often scandals and controversies arise around nudity. The mere sight of an ordinary human body enrages spectators, especially the elderly and deeply religious.
Quite often, sculptures become the most scandalous. Since the days of Ancient Greece, the human body has been glorified: craftsmen have carved countless statues of naked people from marble. Contemporary art also abounds in nude sculptures. We invite you to familiarize yourself with ten of them.
Piss
Czech sculptor David Cerny (David Cerny) has a scandalous fame in his homeland. One of his works is a Soviet tank painted bright pink. The tank was installed on a pedestal, imitating Soviet war memorials. Some of David's sculptures depict naked people in unusual positions or situations. For example, the composition " Piss"depicting two naked men looking at each other and peeing into a pond. Quite a strange sight, which, however, arouses a lot of curiosity among the audience.
Bear eats man
Sculpture " The bear eats a man"has received so much criticism from the public that it should have been isolated and protected from some angry people. Thordis Adalsteinsdottir (Thordis Adalsteinsdottir), painter and sculptor from Iceland. The sculpture is located in the central park of New York, and, according to locals, it is "somewhat creepy." The statue imitates a child's naive crafts, but parents walking in the park with their children are not particularly eager for their children to create such works.
Sleepwalking man
Among the manicured lawns and flower beds of New England, surrounded by the scenery of old Wellesley College, stands a statue of an American artist Tony Matelli (Tony Matelli), which confuses people passing by. The main complaint is that a half-naked man walking around in a fit of sleepwalking has no place at the walls of an institution where girls from high society are taught art and good manners. And perhaps this claim is not groundless.
Nude Woman on Bench
Sculptor Patrick McKiernan (Patrick McKearnan) has met with some pretty harsh criticism of his work. However, each time he managed to gracefully extricate himself from the problems. For example, the fact that the statue of a naked pregnant woman sprawled on a bench is located in the very center of the city, Patrick explained that he wants to investigate how the public will perceive the nudity of a woman with a less than ideal figure.
Siren
British artist Mark Quinn (Marc Quinn) has a bold and colorful style that is not to everyone's taste. Mark likes to speculate on the fame of modern movie and show business stars. One of his most striking works " Siren"depicts a half-naked supermodel Kate Moss, twisted into an incredible provocative pose. The sculpture looks like it was made of gold. Unfortunately, the author does not explain exactly what he meant by this.
The long awaited
Any of the sculptures by an Australian sculptor Patricia Pichinni (Patricia Piccinini) is getting a lot of attention. They are grotesque, deformed creatures that evoke a strange mixture of disgust and tenderness. However, it should be noted that despite the controversial beauty of Patricia's works, her "monsters" in any case are remembered and evoke a whole host of different emotions in the soul.
Wings of the city
Recently, in the very center of Houston, an exhibition of nine sculptures by the famous Mexican sculptor was held Jorge Marina (Jorge Marin) titled " Wings of the city"(Wings of the City). All works play on a naked human body, often in a religious context, such as the unusual depiction of angels.
The Anatomy of an Angel
Damien Hirst is perhaps the most controversial artist today. His numerous sculptures always cause a stir and a lot of controversy. "Anatomy of an Angel" is a marble sculpture in which a graceful angel appears before the audience partially without skin or part of the muscles, revealing the internal structure of the body, not of an angel, but of an ordinary person.
Process 5-2
Chinese artist's sculptures of sumo wrestlers Mu Boyan (Mu Boyan) are interesting for several reasons. Visually, they are impressive and cumbersome, which, however, is logical for the theme chosen by the artist. But Boyan also puts another, cultural subtext into his work: he contrasts the ancient traditions of the East with the modern cliché of the West, and also denounces the connection between the passion for enrichment and the tendency to obesity.
Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston
One of the infamous works Daniel Edwards (Daniel Edwards) - sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth. The author often speculates on the popularity of other people and the emphasized sexuality of his works.
Another form of contemporary art where nudity of the human body is as popular as in sculpture is photography. Such as, a series of photographs in the style of "nude" in the forest with a beautiful girl and a real gray wolf.

Pissing pug, Lucifer and other controversial sculptures that caused a lot of controversy

An artist from Russia creates hyper-realistic portraits around which controversy does not subside - is it talent or craft
It is no secret that hyperrealism in the modern world of art is not particularly favored by either critics or advanced connoisseurs, who strive to attribute this style to an ordinary craft that is not interesting to anyone.
