Argentine author Tomas Saraceno dreams of how in the future cities will not stand on the ground, but fly across the sky, providing themselves with everything they need and easily overcoming conflicts and restrictions associated with state borders. What is this if not a utopia? But the difference between our hero and other famous dreamers is that he is trying to realize his seemingly unrealizable plans.
An architect by training, Thomas designs and builds microsystems based on rigorous scientific assumptions and the use of innovative materials. For many years, nature has been opposed to construction, but Saraceno insists that we must change this view and understand that any creation of human hands is a part of nature, because a person himself is a part of nature. Only by adopting this approach, we can change our lives for the better, the author claims.
The sculptures of Thomas Saraceno resemble inflatable balloons inhabited by plants and are not yet flying among the clouds, but suspended in the air. The author himself calls these transparent balls "Biospheres". “When I talk about flying cities, people usually think, 'Flying cities, well, well.' But after all, our modern aviation is no more than a hundred years old, and we must work to make our dreams come true,”the author says.
Tomas Saraceno was born in 1973 in the Argentine city of Tucuman. The author currently lives and works in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). In his work, he strives to create works of art, taking into account the foundations of physics, chemistry and architecture. And even if the world does not really believe in the utopian ideas of Thomas Saraceno, in any case, it finds them quite curious: the author's solo exhibitions are successfully held in Denmark, Luxembourg, Italy, Sweden, USA, Germany.
