At auction in New York, Dürer's engraving was sold for $ 612 thousand

The most expensive object was the engraving, the creator of which was the world famous master Albrecht Durer, who lived from 1471 to 1528. His work with the title "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" was sold for 612 thousand dollars. Such a high price made the engraving the most expensive lot at the last Christie's auction.

The press service of this auction house said that Dürer, who are among the masters of the Western European Renaissance, created this work of his in 1497-1498. This work of art was kept in the United States of America, on the Pacific coast and was part of a private collection. Before the sale, specialists evaluated this engraving and assigned a cost that turned out to be almost half the price that the now new owner of the engraving decided to pay.

Among the most expensive lots of the auction held in New York is the painting with the title "The Dormition of the Virgin", which was created in the years 1470-1474. Its creator is the German painter Martin Schongauer, who lived from 1445 to 1491, who worked during the early Renaissance. For a time this work of art belonged to Karl Ferdinand Friedrich von Nagler, postmaster general from Prussia, who is known as the creator of the modern German postal service. After that she managed to visit another part of several private collections. For this work, 492 thousand dollars were paid at the auction.

For 372 thousand dollars, the work with the title "Madonna of Einsiedeln" was sold. This is a work of a master whose name is unknown. Only his initials E. S. are known. and that this master worked in the years 1450-1456. The name Einsiedeln is a pilgrimage center in Switzerland. This center arose around the Benedictine abbey, which in turn was founded here in 934. Employees of the auction house Christie's, when evaluating this work, called it very rare. Previously, the painting was part of the private collection of the youngest son of Augustus III, King of Poland, named Albert Casimir Augustus of Saxony.

In total, the auction house Christie's put up about 150 lots for sale. All of these are engravings created by old masters. In total, from the sale of these works, it was possible to bail out an amount of $ 2.74 million.
