In the 1970s. this actor was called one of the most attractive, talented and promising Soviet artists. All-Union popularity came to Evgeny Kindinov after the main role in Andrei Konchalovsky's film "A Romance of Lovers". The actor was very organic in the role of a lyrical hero, and he was often offered such images. But it so happened that Kindinov was forced to take a long pause in filming, because of which the directors no longer offered the main roles, and the majority of the audience forgot about him …
Star lit by Konchalovsky
His fate could have turned out quite differently, if not for the hobby of his older sister. Evgeny grew up as a bully, spent a lot of time on the street, from where he often returned with bruises and a broken nose. To save her son from bad company, my sister suggested that her parents send him to a theater studio at the House of Pioneers, where she herself was already studying. The boy, who until that moment had never been fond of theater, was unexpectedly so captured by the atmosphere of rehearsals and performances that after school he decided to move in the same direction and entered the Moscow Art Theater School.
At 22, Eugene was accepted into the troupe of the Moscow Art Theater, where he remains to this day. In the late 1960s. he turned out to be the youngest actor in this theater and remained so for many years - the leadership was reluctant to accept newcomers. At 23, Kindinov played his first role in a movie, and at 25 he gained his first resounding popularity after the main role in the film "City Romance" by Pyotr Todorovsky.
Andrei Konchalovsky turned the young actor into a star of the all-Union scale, offering him the main role in his "Romance of Lovers". The actor's audition competition was very serious: Nikolai Burlyaev, Mikhail Boyarsky, Vladimir Konkin applied for the same role. Kindinov was sure that he could only count on a secondary role. At the same time he was offered to star in the film by Alexander Mitta "Moscow, my love". The actor could not refuse this chance - an excellent director, a good script, shooting in Tokyo. And suddenly he was informed that Konchalovsky decided to approve him for the main role. The director of "Mosfilm" put him before a choice: either one shoot or another. Kindinov chose Konchalovsky, and Mitta invited Oleg Vidov instead.
Later, the actor talked about filming: "".
Konchalovsky demanded one hundred percent commitment from the actors, and the result exceeded all expectations: in the USSR, this film was watched by 36.5 million viewers, and at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, he won the Crystal Globe. Evgeny Kindinov has become one of the most popular Soviet actors and the idol of millions of spectators. They sent him bags of letters and stopped in the streets to get an autograph.
Life after glory
In the mid 1970s - early 1980s. Evgeny Kindinov continued to actively act, but there were few main roles, and the level of the proposed scenarios was rather low. Later, the actor admitted that most of them could be abandoned. But he agreed to the passing roles not because of material gain, but, as the actor said, because of his own "promiscuity." In the mid-1980s.interest in him both from the audience and from the directors began to cool down, new heroes came to the cinema.
At the age of 33, the actor passed a serious test, because of which he was forced to refuse filming in films - he had a serious joint disease. He was tormented by severe pains, and if he continued to appear on the stage, then he had to forget about film expeditions. Gradually, the disease receded, but this pause turned out to be fatal for a career in cinema.
Unlike many of his colleagues, Evgeny Kindinov never asked for roles himself and did not beat the thresholds of Mosfilm - he waited for the directors to find him themselves. At first, this is what happened. However, the type of lyrical hero, in which most directors represented him, has become irrelevant over the years. In the 1990s. new proposals have ceased to arrive altogether, creative meetings with the audience have ceased, the radio project "Theater at the Microphone" has also ceased to exist. Only the theater remained, but it also experienced a crisis during this period - the halls were almost empty. Once a colleague suggested that Kindinov take up teaching work at VGIK, and the actor was so carried away by the pedagogy that he released several courses for students. The most famous among them later became Andrei Merzlikin.
In the early 2000s. Kindinov again began acting in films, but he was no longer offered the main roles, and the actor was not carried away by the theme of new series and films. He said: "".
Evgeny Kindinov today
The last time Yevgeny Kindinov appeared on the screens in 2013, starring in the third season of the series "Sklifosovsky", and since then there have been no new projects with his participation. But the actor continues to enter the theater stage to this day - he always considered service in the theater his main job, because nothing can replace live communication with the audience.
He is philosophical about the fact that the success of the 1970s. he never managed to repeat - young people do not know him, and former fans simply stopped recognizing him. But popularity has never been the main criterion of creative solvency for him, so he does not worry about this. At 75, Kindinov believes that his life has developed quite successfully, and there are enough roles in the filmography for which he is not ashamed.
The actor did not immediately manage to find inner balance and come to terms with this state of affairs. Kindinov said: "".
This film has become a landmark not only for Evgeny Kindinov. Behind the Scenes of "Romance of Lovers": Romance on the Set and Test of Glory.
