Today it is difficult to imagine the reasons why a harmless musical film about love "June 31" might have seemed "unreliable", but almost immediately after the premiere in December 1978 he was sent to the "shelf", where he remained for 7 years. Moreover, even the beautiful songs written by one of the most popular Soviet composers, Alexander Zatsepin, fell into disgrace due to unnecessary associations that aroused the words "A world without a loved one" …
The film was based on the novel by John Boynton Priestley "June 31", but the script had so little in common with it that it could be considered an independent work. In Soviet times, this was often done by authors who, for one reason or another, could not count on the publication and success of their original creations. The screenwriter of the film, Nina Ilyina, later admitted: "".
Many famous artists applied for the main roles in the film: in the image of Lady Ninet, viewers could see Irina Ponarovskaya or Alla Pugacheva, Lemison could be played by Andrei Mironov, and Melisenta - Irina Alferova or Elena Shanina. But the director Leonid Kvinikhidze had a different idea - he wanted to see in the musical not dramatic actors, but ballet dancers. Difficulties arose with this, because the dancers were considered unreliable people - there were too many “defectors” among them after their foreign tours.
Despite the disapproval of the management of the film studio, the roles were approved by the soloists of the Bolshoi Theater Alexander Godunov and Lyudmila Vlasova, as well as the ballet dancer from the troupe of the Stanislavsky Musical Theater Natalia Trubnikova. Her vocals were to be performed by a professional singer. The choice fell on the soloist of VIA "Muzyka" Tatiana Antsiferova, who was found in the Transcarpathian Uzhgorod.
Actor Nikolai Eremenko, finding himself in such a company, panicked:.
Difficulties also arose with the music, the author of which was the popular Soviet composer Alexander Zatsepin. In the arrangements, he had to make more than 30 amendments, as the management of the film studio expressed complaints: "". The dancers' overly revealing outfits also aroused dissatisfaction. The film was still released, but almost immediately fell into disgrace. The management's fears about the ballet dancers were not in vain - in August 1979, during the Bolshoi Theater tour to the United States, Alexander Godunov decided not to return to the USSR and asked for political asylum. Therefore, after the premiere in December 1978, the film with his participation was sent “on the shelf” for a long 7 years.
Natalia Trubnikova said: "".
The film was not shown for the reason that in the early 1980s. composer Alexander Zatsepin also left the USSR for France, after which even songs from the musical were banned. The most absurd was the ban on performing the song "The World Without a Beloved" on stage - this phrase seemed to someone an allusion to the emigration of the director of the Taganka Theater, Yuri Lyubimov, who, after touring abroad in 1982, did not return to the USSR. The artistic council passed the verdict: "" And in the lines of the song "Star Bridge" they saw the propaganda of the American space weapons program, conventionally called by the journalists "Star Wars".
Unfortunately, abroad for the fugitive, things did not turn out the way he expected. The tragic fate of Alexander Godunov: a scandalous escape from the USSR and a mysterious death.
