20 years ago, this group made a splash not only in our country, but also abroad. Two teenage girls succeeded in something that even their eminent colleagues did not learn - they conquered Europe and America, surpassing even famous world stars in album sales. Lena Katina and Julia Volkova performed together for 10 years, and then the group broke up, after which the girls stopped communicating and no longer hid their mutual antipathy. What became its cause and how their fates developed after the Tatu project ceased to exist - further in the review.

The Tatu project was created by the screenwriter of advertising clips and producer Ivan Shapovalov. At first, he chose one soloist from hundreds of applicants - 15-year-old Lena Katina, and recorded several songs with her. And then he decided to make a duet, and on Lena's recommendation he took Yulia Volkova into the group. The girls have been friends since childhood and performed together in the famous children's ensemble "Fidgets", in which many stars of show business began.

The producer focused on the scandalous image of the performers - the theme of the same-sex love of two schoolgirls made a lot of noise in those days. Now this can hardly surprise anyone, but 20 years ago, frank Tatu songs and videos that exploited this topic blew up the entire post-Soviet space. Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova were at the epicenter of scandal and general attention. While there were heated discussions in society, the girls themselves rarely gave interviews and diligently avoided answering questions about how autobiographical the lyrics of their songs were. In the meantime, the hit “I’ve lost my mind” for several months occupied the first lines of the charts of radio stations, and the video for this song received the first prize of the Russian MTV.

Their debut album "200 in the opposite direction" in 2001 sold 500 thousand copies, and abroad the group "Tatu" bypassed even Madonna in terms of album sales. They released one hit after another: “They won't catch up with us”, “Half an hour”, “Simple movements”, “Don't believe, don't be afraid, don't ask”, several songs in English. At Eurovision in 2003, the Tatu group took third place. This project has become one of the most popular Russian musical groups in the world.

In the second half of the 2000s, the group's popularity gradually began to decline. The girls decided to show their cards and finally admitted that in fact they were always connected only by friendly relations, and everything else was only part of the group's image. Contrary to their expectations, this frankness cost them the love of a huge number of fans - they simply no longer believed. The group soon disbanded. The girls performed on stage in a duet several times, but since then each of them has taken up solo work.

Julia Volkova, as a solo performer, recorded several songs, but her work was of much less interest to the public than her personal life. Even during the years of Tatu's existence, there were rumors about her affair with her bodyguard Pavel Sidorov, which turned out to be not unfounded. At the age of 19, the singer gave birth to his daughter Victoria, after which they parted. Then Julia married a prominent businessman Parviz Yasinov and converted to Islam for him. The couple had a son, Samir, but in 2010 this marriage broke up, and a few years later Volkova returned to Orthodoxy. After that, there were still many rumors about her novels, but the singer herself preferred since then to keep her personal life a secret. In 2018, it became known that Yulia Volkova got married. She does not disclose the name of her chosen one.

In 2015, Yulia Volkova recorded the solo track "Keep close", a year later she released her debut album, but the audience still remained indifferent to her creative achievements. All the attention of the fans was focused on the singer's greatly changed voice and her almost unrecognizable appearance. Later, the artist admitted that in 2012 she underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumor of the thyroid gland, after which she had to work for a long time to restore her voice. Now she continues to sing, although she can no longer take the notes that she easily took in her youth - she has one ligament completely atrophied. But the singer does not comment on the information about the numerous plastic surgeries that have greatly changed her appearance, stating that she is completely satisfied with her appearance.

Lena Katina after the breakup of the group moved to the USA, began her solo career in the international music project Lena Katina, recording new songs and rehash old hits of the Tatu group. In 2013, she married Slovenian rock musician Sasho Kuzmanovic and two years later gave birth to a son, Alexander. The family lived in Los Angeles. In 2019, they divorced, after which the singer returned to Moscow. After living for several years in the United States, Katina admitted that in fact she never planned to stay abroad. She says: "".

Most of the listeners are rather skeptical about the singers' solo projects, still not losing hope that one day they will again unite in a duet. However, the girls stopped communicating a long time ago and do not express a desire to work together again. Julia Volkova explained this by the fact that once her colleague disrupted a joint tour in Slovakia.

Lena Katina years later admitted that Yulia Volkova tried to dominate the team and allegedly was going to hinder her solo career, using her connections on Channel One. "" - said the singer. Well, it looks like another myth has been shattered, and after these mutual claims, the group's most devoted fans will once again be greatly disappointed …
