True or fictional, but many people sincerely believe that each of us on earth has a double, and that if you're lucky, you can meet with him, and even make friends. But if for someone all this is just a theory or an interesting legend, then for a Canadian photographer François Brunelle - the work of his whole life. For more than 4 years he has been looking for and photographing such "twins" who are not only not relatives, but often do not even know about each other's existence. The photographer's art project is called "I'm not a look-alike!" ("I don't look like!")
Today the art project of "dissimilar" consists of 140 pairs of doubles, and their number is gradually growing. When François first started working with this material, he had to look for the right people in the crowd on his own. But over time, when the project became popular, and people started talking about it, couples of unknown twins themselves began to come to it to participate in it, to become part of a creative idea. Someone found their own double, someone was brought together by friends, but the most interesting cases are when the "twins" suddenly turn out to be colleagues, neighbors, fellow practitioners, and have been friends for many years.
However, the photographer has no goal of finding couples in which people are alike as two peas in a pod. Correctly placed light, makeup, accessories, clothing also play an essential role in the formation of images. But the main thing is internal similarity, identity of characters, values, similar temperaments. In general, doubles are not only in appearance, but also in spirit, interests, and worldview. So, in the memory of Francois Brunelle there were many cases when potential "twins" exclaimed "I'm not like!" at the sight of each other. But after talking, they found out amazing coincidences, up to the same tattoos, educational institutions, addictions in food, music, and in exceptional cases - even common acquaintances from the past.
