It is in vain to think that drawing with your fingers is suitable only as entertainment for kids or as a method of art therapy in correctional and recreational institutions. So, an American artist Iris Scott does not use brushes at all in his work. Having perfectly mastered the drawing technique called Fingerpainting, she creates stunning paintings by simply dipping her fingers in paint and sliding them across a blank white canvas. Pulling on thin latex gloves on her hands, Iris Scott gladly stains them with paint so that she can then transfer what she sees to the canvas. Landscapes or portraits, nature or city, people or animals, or even scenes that resemble freeze frames from films - all this consists of tens of thousands of short strokes, they are also the touch of the artist's fingers. This is how she works, alternating short strokes with long ones, mixing paint on her hands, and then directly on the canvas.

The desire to master a new painting technique for myself came to Iris Scott suddenly, by chance. As an adult, she was vacationing in Taiwan, where it was so hot during the day that it was only possible to work indoors by turning on the air conditioner. On one of these days, the artist was forced to flee from the heat in her hotel room, and in order not to go out again, even to clean brushes soiled in paint, she began to paint with her fingers. Short and long strokes, alternating fast and slow pace of drawing from the side resemble playing the piano. The same creative process, which requires an artist to concentrate, to plunge headlong into what he is doing right here and right now. And this process turned out to be so exciting that since then Iris Scott decided to completely abandon brushes and stock up on a huge number of latex gloves.

Iris Scott's Fingerpainting works are reminiscent of the Impressionists, who also abandoned brushes, but in favor of a palette knife. It's time to remember the amazing works of Leonid Afremov, Karen Tarlton, Vietnamese artist Phan Thu Trang … Well, and get to know more about the work of Iris Scott.
