Snow houses, it turns out, are being built not only by the Eskimos in the far North, but also by the inhabitants of rich and warm Germany. True, the Germans are building not for themselves, but for God, and not forever, but only for the winter. Perhaps the most winter church in the world this year appeared in Bavaria - and it is made of amazingly white and cold building material.
In a Bavarian village with a poetic name Mitterfirmiansroit (yes, it’s Mitterfirmiansreut!) a hundred years ago there was no church. The locals were terribly upset by this: they wanted to pray like all decent people, not far from their homes, and not kneel weary in an hour and a half walk. However, no one was in a hurry to build temples in Mitterfirm … in general, in this far from civilization village. And then laziness and a sense of legitimate indignation prompted the Mitterfirmiansreutites (!) To build a temple out of grazing material.
The snow church turned out to be cold, but beautiful, and the authorities finally paid attention to the problems of the village. So that God no longer needed to huddle in a snowy house, they began to raise funds - and you would think that less than 15 years have passed since the church was nevertheless built!
But you can't please people. Now, a hundred years later, in Bavaria you will not surprise anyone with an ordinary church. And now in Mitterfirmianreut they got bored of snow church! Therefore, on the 100th anniversary of this whole story snow house opened the gate again for the parishioners. But this, of course, is not the same snowy house in which they prayed at this very place a century ago: the new church is taller and more beautiful. And besides, they nevertheless agreed to consecrate it: although the local bishop resisted for a long time, not wanting to trust the title of the temple to a short-lived structure, in the end he backed down, and services began to be held in the snowy church.
So for just 100,000 euros out of 1,400 cubic meters of snow and ice in Bavaria was built snow house of god … This is not yet the most exotic place of worship, if you remember the heavenly temple shining through at sunset, the green Notre Dame de Paris made of trees and the luminous mosque - but certainly the most wintry.

A chic modern house was built on the ruins of an 18th century farm: What its interior looks like
What is usually done with the ruins of old buildings? They - depending on their historical or architectural value - are either preserved and converted into a tourist attraction, or destroyed. But a group of architects and designers from Scotland decided to do it differently. The authors of the project "inscribed" a new building into the ruins of an old farm of the 18th century, building a modern house on the basis of the ruins. The result is a stylish building with antique "inserts". Creative, unusual and beautiful! And inside - e
What secrets are kept in the most pompous tenement house for the elite, built 100 years ago in St. Petersburg
This stately house on Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt is one of the architectural masterpieces built in the northern capital by the father of St. Petersburg Art Nouveau Fyodor Lidval. The building is decorated with mushrooms, animals, owls and other interesting elements. At the beginning of the last century, it was one of the most pompous apartment buildings erected in St. Petersburg for the elite. And even now it is very prestigious to live here
Why was an octagonal house built in St. Petersburg, or What secrets are kept by the "well" on the Petrograd side
There is one amazing pre-revolutionary house in the city on the Neva. When viewed from a bird's eye view, it looks like an octagon. And, of course, it was built according to the "proprietary" St. Petersburg principle of houses-wells. This beautiful and mysterious building is located on Maly Avenue of the Petrogradskaya Side. Why did the architects design the house in this particular shape? There are two versions: mystical and real
Christian analogues of Old Church Slavonic holidays, or why the church could not defeat Maslenitsa and Ivan Kupala
Christianity, introduced in Russia by Prince Vladimir in 988, actually put an end to the development of the solar cult. For a long time the new religion could not oust the remnants of paganism from the consciousness of the people. Some Slavs remained faithful to Dazhdbog, Khors and Perun, others - mixed the two faiths, "merging" their gods with Christian saints, and still others worshiped brownies. Such a term as dual faith appeared, with which the clergy fought for a long time. To "erase" the ancient Slavic traditions, church and St
Who built a Gothic Lutheran church in the Caucasus 150 years ago, and Why did the Germans settle in these parts
This Gothic building looks very unexpected against the backdrop of the architectural buildings of the Caucasus. It is located in the capital of North Ossetia. However, it is interesting not only for its atypical architecture for these places. The former Lutheran church, and now the North Ossetian State Academic Philharmonic, located in the historical part of the city, reminds of the old neighborhood of Ossetians and Germans in Vladikavkaz
