With each passing day we become more experienced, educated, and at the same time farther from childhood, when everything seemed great and sincere, or, at least, there were hopes for a brighter future. Dominik Smialowski recreated children's fantasies in his photographs, in which real people appear against the background of such familiar situations from childhood that the heart aches.
Whatever our childhood, we all missed our desk at school, we all dreamed of flying into space, we were all in love: boys - with an excellent girl with a long braid, girls - with a bully and bully. These things unite us and almost all of us experience nostalgia for childhood, at least for some of its moments. Dominik Smialowski managed to cause with his photos about childhood fantasies smile, and only heightened the feeling of nostalgia.
Many artists use their childhood memories in their work. Most often these are drawings and paintings, such as, for example, children's drawings by the Hungarian artist Irisz Agocs or the kind paintings of Anna Silivonchik. And Dominik Smialowski implemented them in this project of his called “Missing Garden”. He photographed people in front of simple drawings drawn by the artist Monica Pruss. Dominic's goal is simple - a kind of rebellion against the adult world and the need to sometimes return to childhood.
Dominik Smialowski was born in 1981 in Warsaw. His grandfather tried to instill in his grandson a love of photography, but he failed. However, the grandson got carried away by himself, and still cannot say exactly how and why it happened. What is most impressive about Dominic's photographs is the very fact that many of the captured moments after some time remain in the past. In fact, in every shot you freeze time.
Dominik has a very beautifully designed website with pleasant music, where you can see both photos dedicated to children's fantasiesand other works.
