Despite the fact that initially William was raised as the future heir to the throne, and Prince Harry enjoyed much more freedom, this was never a stumbling block for the brothers. Even when Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2010, Harry was involved in some of his brother's and his wife's projects. True, by his own admission, he often felt like a superfluous third.

It seemed that everything could change after the marriage of Prince Harry, because brotherly friendship could well develop into a strong relationship between the two families. But everything happened exactly the opposite.

Then, two years ago, Prince Harry did not hide the fact that he began to see his older brother much less often, but at the same time he assured: no matter what, they can always count on each other's support and help. The decision of the Dukes of Sussex to resign as members of the royal family, it seems, hit Prince William most painfully, who perceived the situation not just as an older brother, but as a future king. In his opinion, this situation was destroying the reputation of the royal family.

The last time the brothers met in March 2020, and after the family of Prince Harry moved to America, they only communicated via video link a few times. It seems that they are still offended at each other and are not yet ready to forget the reasons that led to the cooling of relations between them.

The situation with the rather candid interviews of the Dukes of Sussex with Oprah Winfrey seems to have further widened the chasm between Princes Harry and William. The Duke of Cambridge considers Prince Harry's outspokenness to be excessive and negatively affecting the institution of monarchy in Great Britain. In turn, the Duke of Sussex remains confident that his first responsibility is to protect his own family, wife, son and second child, who has not yet been born.

If earlier the tabloids saw the reason for the cooling between brothers in the lack of mutual understanding between their wives, now with a certain degree of certainty we can say that the different perceptions of the institution of monarchy have become a stumbling block. Perhaps the brothers will be able to negotiate mutual claims and forget grievances when they meet face-to-face during Prince Harry's visit to the UK to unveil a monument to Princess Diana on July 1, 2021.
