A high-profile divorce proceedings began in the British city of Manchester. Dorothy Dawson, now 80 years old, filed for divorce from her 84-year-old husband Barry, with whom they lived together for 62 years. During this time, the couple raised 6 children, and they had 13 grandchildren. The reason for the divorce was not trivial - the woman found out that her husband, who for many years pretended to be deaf and did not utter a single word, hears perfectly and can speak. It’s just that all these years he didn’t want to listen to her chatter.

All those close to Barry Dawson were sure that he did not hear anything. To communicate with her husband, Mrs. Dawson attended sign language courses for two years. But as soon as she learned to talk at a household level, Barry said that he could see poorly. “Now I began to think that he was just pretending,” the offended wife said at the trial.

Perhaps the family would have lived in blissful ignorance, but Barry had a problem. He told his wife that he was going to a charity event, and he went to a karaoke bar and had a lot of fun there. Everything would be fine, but I saw where he sings in karaoke, Dorothy saw on Youtube. In her divorce filing, Dorothy Dawson demands financial compensation from her husband for the stress she has endured, half of the acquired property and lifelong maintenance.

Defending his client, Dawson's lawyer said that the man resorted to such a trick not at all in order to offend someone, but to save the family. According to him, Barry is a laconic and quiet person, and his wife, on the contrary, is incredibly chatty. And if the man had not pretended to be deaf, then their marriage would have collapsed 60 years ago. “He did it to save the family and for his wife,” said attorney Barry Dawson.
