Every person has their own idea of happiness. Someone needs an expensive villa on the ocean shore, and someone dreams of an ordinary … smile. Alas, nowadays, having healthy teeth is an expensive pleasure. Many people in need around the world cannot afford dentistry treatment, much less prosthetics. And it was they who decided to give a gift to the young Brazilian dentist Felipe Rossi. With a team of volunteers, he travels the world and returns their smiles to the poor for free.
Four years ago, Felipe founded the Por1sorriso dental company, whose main goal is to fix the teeth of the poor. The 38-year-old dentist became director of fundraising, and through his charity event, he decided to do good all over the world. Together with like-minded people, the doctor has already visited low-income communities not only in Brazil, but also in other countries - for example, Kenya and Mozambique.
Photos of his patients "before" and "after" the dentist uploads to Instagram. The changes that occur in the faces of these ordinary people after they have beautiful smiles are simply amazing. New teeth not only make a person younger - sometimes they radically change his appearance, in the full sense of turning an ugly woman into a beauty, and an unkempt-looking old man into an attractive elderly man.
A young woman named Terry is one of those whose lives were changed by a routine dental practice.
- Before the operation, my whole life was a solid black hole. For many years, I have not had the opportunity to smile in photographs, and it has always been humiliating, because people who take group shots constantly told me, "Well, smile" smile! "And I did not know what to say," she says.
The reason for the loss of teeth was severe depression: after her beloved Terry died of cancer in 2005, she was so depressed that she completely stopped brushing her teeth. Depression medications prescribed by doctors did not help. As a result, Terry's teeth became so bad that she had to remove almost all of her teeth, and, as she explains, she actually had no bone in her upper jaw. And, alas, there was no money for prosthetics.
The woman admits that for a long time she had to give up her favorite dishes - for example, for many years she could not eat salads and fresh cherries. Now, when she has new dentures, she feels truly free, she cannot look at herself in the mirror, she constantly smiles. Those close to Terri immediately noticed how she changed.
Talking about those people whom he managed to help, and the joy they experienced, the young doctor cannot hold back tears.
Rossi's philosophy is straightforward. “I never take money from poor people for whom I treat teeth. And such help is radically different from those projects where people simply receive toothbrushes and toothpaste as a gift,”he wrote on Instagram.
More than four thousand volunteers are already registered in the Por1sorriso database, however, of course, not everyone has the opportunity to travel to different countries and help people. Nevertheless, the project is working, and Rossi and his team usually transport about two tons of equipment.
Meanwhile, the doctor reminds you that it is very important to take care of your oral cavity. And even if you find yourself in a difficult situation or you do not have the opportunity to regularly visit the dentist, this is not a reason not to brush your teeth. Some problems can be prevented with routine prophylaxis.
Those who have not managed to maintain healthy, beautiful teeth can only hope for a miracle. Who knows, maybe after the restrictions associated with the coronavirus are lifted, volunteer dentists will come to his town or village and fulfill their cherished dream of a beautiful smile.
