Video: Who will win the space race: the United States and Russia are going to shoot a movie in orbit

It's amazing how strong the spirit of competition is in people and even entire countries. In late spring 2020, it became known about the work of NASA together with filmmakers on a new film, which will be filmed in space. In the fall, information appeared that the Roscosmos corporation had also begun work on a similar project. It seems that now the two countries will compete for the right to be the first to release a feature film shot in outer space.
First application for participation in the race
When in the spring Jim Bridenstein, the head of NASA, announced the start of work on a project for filming a film in space, users began to actively discuss the project. Tom Cruise, who will star in the role of the space hero, is a famous adrenaline lover. He was never stopped by difficult filming, and he performs all dangerous stunts without the participation of stunt doubles. And where else can you “tickle your nerves” more strongly than in space?
Moreover, if Elon Musk joins the project with his company SpaceX, then all sorts of technical wonders will appear in the film, which sometimes seem to be real guests from the future.
The plot and name of the picture are still unknown to the general public, but Doug Lyman, known for his projects "Ecstasy", "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", "Teleport", "Game without Rules" and others, acts as a director. An astronaut is expected to be aboard the spacecraft during filming, and today it is assumed that it will be Michael Lopez-Alegria.
Filming in space is scheduled for October next year, and Elon Musk has already announced on his page on the social network that "it will be fun."
Russian plans for the development of space cinema
Naturally, domestic filmmakers could not ignore this news. Probably, the desire to get ahead of their American colleagues in the space film race led to the beginning of negotiations and the emergence of the idea to release a unique film before Tom Cruise and Elon Musk, together with NASA, did it.
Already in September, the Roscosmos website published information about the beginning of the creation of a feature film with the symbolic title "Challenge", which will be filmed in outer space. All the details of the project are kept secret, the flight of the actors into space is scheduled for the fall of 2021.
The director of the "Challenge" will be Klim Shipenko, who already has a film on space themes, and among his successful projects is the sensational "Kholop" at the time. Today, as the creators of the future film assure, neither the plot nor the names of the actors are known. But a team of producers has already been assembled, including Konstantin Ernst, Denis Zhalinsky, Dmitry Rogozin, Sergei Titinkov, Alexei Trotsyuk, Eduard Iloyan and Vitaly Shlyappo.
It is assumed that the performers of the roles, who are lucky enough to go into space on the Soyuz MS spacecraft, will be determined based on the results of an open competition, and the physical fitness of each actor must be much higher than average, otherwise they simply risk not withstanding the colossal loads that await them.
The script for the film is not yet ready, but now we are talking about the global goals facing the creators. They will have to show the world not only a real masterpiece, but also to do everything so that the theme of the space achievements of Russia passes through as a red line, and the cosmonauts, as they once did in Soviet times, would become national heroes.
Chances of winning
It is not known who will win this space film race, but the winner will definitely be the country that will be able to release its first space film on the screens. Naturally, the creators of both films will keep the plot and any details regarding the shooting a big secret. It is clear that part of the filming will take place on Earth, and in both cases, computer graphics and modern special effects will be used to the maximum. A lot will depend on the skill of the actors.
Russian filmmakers emphasize that they will be the first, which means that they plan to get ahead of their American counterparts. But what will actually turn out, only time will tell. There is only a year left before the departure of the actors into orbit.
Needless to say that practically no film is complete without special effects that make the viewer, sitting at home on a soft sofa, believe in what is happening, while allowing almost all of us to become part of an exciting storyline with our favorite characters and movie heroes.
