Lake Baikal is the cleanest lake on our planet. For several years, Kristina Makeeva, a photographer from Moscow, made trips there. As a result of these expeditions, she created a series of amazing photographs of winter Baikal. Christina, at the age of sixteen, realized that it was with photography that she wanted to connect her professional future. She trained as a graphic designer. After working for some time in the profession, Makeeva realized that this is not quite what she would like from life.

Christina says about herself and her work: “I look at the most ordinary things in a completely different way. For example, walking in the winter park, I see not just snow-covered trees, but a mysterious fairy-tale forest”.

The photographer is very fond of traveling. From new experiences during such trips, Christina draws inspiration to create her delightful works. Christina says that this is a kind of drug for her - it drags on immediately and forever, all the time you want more impressions, brighter.

Speaking about skill and talent, Christina says that one should not delude ourselves that talent is, they say, God's gift and that's it. It is also very hard work, these are sleepless nights. You need to endlessly strive for perfection: read more, watch, listen. Then try to make and develop your taste.

In the art of photography, there are no frames and limitations, no special criteria. The main thing is to make the eye happy. Rules are needed only at the beginning of the path, and when you are already confident in yourself and your creativity - break the rules! Be creative!

For Kristina Makeeva, the most important thing is accuracy. She tries to make the line between reality and her magical world as invisible as possible. Ultimately, all the work of a photographer is to show her inner world.

The images taken from space show that Lake Baikal has the shape of a crescent. Its size is so huge that the locals call it the sea. But it's still a lake. Baikal is surrounded on all sides by a picturesque landscape - hills of extinct volcanoes and unusually beautiful mountains.

When the lake appeared, science is not yet known for certain. Scientists suggest that the age of this impressive freshwater body may be 25 or even 35 million years. But this is all conditional. The highly respected scientist Tatarinov believes that these are too exaggerated figures.

He put forward a hypothesis that Baikal is "only" about eight thousand years old. The basis for this version is that usually a fresh water body cannot exist for more than 15-20 thousand years. This is due to the fact that over time, the bottom of such a reservoir is covered with silt and the lake turns into a swamp. Baikal is famous for the purest water there.

Its purity is legendary. They say you can drink it straight from the lake. Moreover, the water of Lake Baikal is considered curative. The water in the lake is practically free of salts and minerals. In its composition, it is more like distilled water that has passed more than one level of purification.

Lake Baikal is a place with a unique ecosystem. This is a favorite habitat for a huge number of different animals and birds. Many of them are unique and are not found anywhere else in the world.

The lake water is strikingly clear. The bottom can be viewed in great detail. The waters of the lake are especially beautiful at a time when the ice melts - they become indescribably bright blue.

Not everyone dares to swim in the crystal clear waters of the lake. After all, the water here does not warm above nine degrees Celsius, even in hot summer. Perhaps in the smallest and shallow bays. And then, do not count on warm water!

In Lake Baikal you can swim and see all the beauty of its underwater world, only in a wetsuit. Local residents say that in winter the ice on the lake is so thick that in the 19th century a kind of railway was built there and steam locomotives were transported across the lake. When the winter is too fierce, with severe frosts, huge cracks cut through the Baikal water mirror. Some of them sometimes reach more than 30 kilometers in length and 3 meters in width. The sound that ice makes when it cracks can be compared to the sound of a cannon shot or thunder.

Scientists argue not only about the age of this majestic lake, but also about the origin of its name. There are many versions that the roots of the word "Baikal" come from Asian languages. There is a hypothesis about Chinese origin. In Chinese, "Bei-Hai" is literally "North Sea". The overwhelming majority of scientists are inclined to believe that the name Baikal comes from the Buryat language. There it sounds like "Baigal". In Russian it began to sound more convenient - "Baikal".

You can endlessly talk about this delightful lake. Many legends and myths are associated with it. But most importantly, all this loses all meaning when you look at the amazing mirror water surface.
