On October 15, Vyacheslav Butusov, the famous rock musician, leader of the Nautilus Pompilius and U-Peter groups, celebrates his 58th birthday. Everyone knows what role his groups played in the history of Russian rock music. But the general public hardly knows why he was ashamed of the song "Goodbye, America", what he has to do with the design of metro stations in Yekaterinburg, and what the singer has in common with the hero of Abdulov from the movie "The Most Charming and Attractive" …

Vyacheslav Butusov has no musical education. He has repeatedly said that he does not consider himself a singer, and when asked who he is by profession, he answers: "I am an architect!" And he really has a reason for this. After school, Butusov graduated from the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute and worked in his specialty for 3 years. By assignment, he ended up at the Uralgiprotrans enterprise, which at that time was engaged in the design of Sverdlovsk metro stations.

Former colleague of Butusov Marina Krylova said: "". Butusov worked on the design of the interiors of the Uralmash and Prospect Kosmonavtov metro stations. He created templates for three-dimensional letters, of which the inscription "Uralmash" is composed, and also made drawings for the facing of the columns at the station "Prospekt Kosmonavtov".

While studying at the Sverdlovsk Architectural Institute, Butusov met another student, Dmitry Umetsky, who also studied music. Later, together they formed the group "Nautilus Pompilius". At the same institute, the singer met his future wife, architect and costume designer Marina Dobrovolskaya. Six months after they met, they got married, and in 1980 they had a daughter, Anna. This marriage lasted 13 years.

Created in 1982, the group was called "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves". Sound engineer Andrey Makarov proposed to rename it "Nautilus". However, in those days there were several groups with this name - one of them was created by a former member of the "Time Machine" Yevgeny Margulis. In 1985, Ilya Kormiltsev, who joined Butusov's team, figured out how to get out of the situation - to expand the name with a second word, "Nautilus Pompilius". The band's second album came out with a cover note that explained: "".

A new period in the musician's work began after moving to Leningrad. In addition to the fact that "Nautilus" has released 12 studio albums, Butusov began to collaborate with director Alexei Balabanov. The singer starred in a cameo role in his film "Brother", and also recorded a soundtrack for it. Later, another of his songs sounded in the film "Brother-2". The musician told about his meeting with Sergei Bodrov, who played the main role in cult films: "". Sergei Bodrov starred in Butusov's video "In the Rain", and later the musician dedicated the song "Eholov" to him.

At the time of filming the film "Brother" the legendary group "Nautilus Pompilius" had practically ceased to exist. Since 1982, the composition of the group has changed several times. In 1988, Dmitry Umetsky left her, a year later Butusov announced the breakup of the group, but after moving to Leningrad, she again continued to perform with other musicians. The last album "Nautilus" "Yablokitai" was released in 1996, a year later they went on a farewell tour, and after that the group broke up completely. And in 2001Vyacheslav Butusov and guitarist of the "Kino" group Georgy Kasparyan created a new group - "U-Piter". Like "Nautilus", it existed for 15 years, after which the musicians announced the termination of the group's activities.

After moving to Leningrad, the musician met Angelica Estoeva, who became his second wife. Three children were born in this marriage. Later, the singer said that he found himself only when he met his second wife - before that he seemed to be "in a gaseous state."

Of all his songs, Butusov does not like Goodbye America the most. This hit became one of the most popular with "Nautilus", and at every concert the musician is still asked to perform it. And he himself does not consider this song a masterpiece. "", - Butusov admits.

In addition to music and songs, Vyacheslav Butusov writes poetry and prose. In 2007, his first book "Virgostan" was published, which included the musician's stories. Then the books “Antidepressant. Co-Search "and" Archia ". About his creative work Butusov says: "".

The days of the rock musician's tempestuous youth remained in the distant past for him. Today he leads a secluded life, spends a lot of time with his family and considers the main thing for himself to be spiritual searches, in which he is guided by faith in God. Butusov admits: "".
Vyacheslav Butusov wrote his most famous hits in collaboration with Ilya Kormiltsev: "Chained by one chain".
