In February 2020, a brutal winter storm, Dennis, raged across Europe. The hurricane wind raised huge waves, as high as a five-story building, from Canada to the coast of northern Scandinavia. During this storm, an unexpected guest arrived on the shores of Ireland - an abandoned ship that disappeared almost two years ago. The sea rejected the victim, and the raging elements threw the ship onto the coastal cliffs. What is this ghost ship that was neither alive nor dead?

An abandoned ship was discovered near the fishing village of Ballycotton in County Cork, Ireland. He got stuck in the rocks near the shore. It turned out to be a Tanzanian cargo ship MV Alta, which was abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean in September 2018. The vessel was investigated for possible environmental problems in the region. Indeed, it often happens that a ship carries potentially dangerous cargo, and the fuel remaining in the tanks also carries a lot of environmental problems. If it spills out into the sea, it will be a disaster. Several tanks contained a fairly small amount of fuel. The rest have not yet been checked, because the vessel still needs to pump out water.
Alta was built in 1976 for a Norwegian company. Then the ship was named Tanager. Later, when the ship was bought by other owners, they renamed it to Pomor Murman. Then the ship was resold again and given the name - Polar Trader. Then, obviously not a very happy ship, the Greeks bought it, and it became Avantis II. In 2015, Panamanian BTG SG Corp bought it and named it Elias. Already the last owners raised the Tanzanian flag over the ship and set off as Alta.
Making a transition from Greece to Haiti in the fall of 2018, the ship broke down two thousand kilometers from Bermuda. The team was unable to fix the breakdown. Coast Guard cutter Confidence traveled a long way, defeating Hurricane Leslie to save the crew of the ill-fated ship. Ten sailors were flown to Puerto Rico.
The tug was supposed to transport the ship to the port, but due to the terrible weather conditions, this idea was not successful. The ship was lost and was sailing uncontrollably somewhere in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. They managed to overtake him in British Guiana, but due to a storm, the ship was not towed away. The Coast Guard then tracked the vessel. Observations were conducted for some time, and then the Alta disappeared from the radar and everyone decided that he sank.
In September 2019, a drifting ghost ship was spotted by a Royal Navy patrol ship. They sent signals to the ship, trying to help, but no one answered them. Sailors believe that the ship drifted towards North and South America, then along the coast of Africa, until it headed towards Europe. The wanderer found his refuge in Ireland. The ship is in a deplorable state, but surprisingly, it is still afloat.
A similar incident occurred in November 2019 on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. More than a hundred years ago, a boat got stuck in the rocks. Back in 1918, she broke away from a tow rope while digging near a waterfall. The two men who were there were trapped and could not get out. People were saved, but there was no way to take the boat off the rocks. She stuck there, in these rocks, like a rusty monument, until the time when the elements helped. There were such heavy showers, a wild wind was blowing and from this the ship turned over, and left its stone captivity.
Regarding the Alta, the Irish authorities stressed that it is very dangerous to approach the vessel. It is rusty, may fall apart, and there may be a leak of combustible materials. The ship is located in such an inconvenient terrain, inaccessible for equipment, which makes it very difficult to transport and poses a serious danger. The authorities promise to do everything possible to avoid problems. The ghost ship will be freed from the cliffs of the coast and it will finally end its unhappy journey.

For 11 days the battleship Potemkin sailed in disorderly tossing between the seaside cities, on the deck of which a red flag was suddenly raised. Neither Living nor Dead: True Hypotheses about How Mary Celeste Became a Ghost Ship
