He always considered himself, first of all, a theatrical actor, but he enjoyed acting in films. In the filmography of Vladimir Samoilov, there are more than a hundred paintings, and on the theater stage he played more than 250 roles. Outside of the profession, Vladimir Yakovlevich had a wonderful family: his wife Nadezhda Fedorovna and son Alexander, who followed in his father's footsteps. What could have made the actor think about voluntary departure from life?

From soldiers to actors

Vladimir Samoilov went to the front at the age of twenty, immediately after the liberation of his native Odessa. But he didn’t like to talk about the war, he didn’t like to remember that time at all. Even my son, if he pestered too much with questions, simply advised him to read books about the war. And he said that he fought "like everyone else."

At the front, Vladimir Samoilov was seriously wounded, almost lost his leg, so he returned to his native Odessa before the victorious volleys died down. In his hometown, he met his future wife Nadezhda Lyashenko, whose attention he seized, having withstood the rivalry with many suitors.

We can say that it was Nadezhda who brought Vladimir Samoilov into the profession, setting a condition: in order to meet with her, he must definitely enter a theater school. And also visit the dentist. Vladimir Samoilov, of course, accepted both conditions. He put his teeth in and entered the second course of the theater immediately.

Soon after a noisy wedding, the young spouses already went on the stage of the Odessa Theater together, while it was Nadezhda Samoilova who was the leading actress, but her husband at that time played very small roles. After receiving their diplomas, the Samoilov family went to Siberia, having received an invitation from the Kemerovo Theater. At the same time, they wanted, first of all, to see Nadezhda in the troupe.

There, in Siberia, the Samoilovs had their only son, Alexander, who would grow up and follow in the footsteps of his father. Today Alexander Samoilov is a famous actor, Honored Artist of Russia, on whose account there are many roles in films and TV shows.

Profession as a state of mind

Despite the fact that Nadezhda brought Vladimir Samoilov into the profession, he could not imagine life without a theater. He played any role in the theater with full dedication. After Vladimir and Nadezhda Samoilov moved to Gorky in 1958, the actor's film career began. During his work at the Gorky Drama Theater, Vladimir Yakovlevich starred in fourteen films, including the film "Wedding in Malinovka".

After the tour of the Gorky Theater in Moscow with the play "Richard III", where Vladimir Samoilov played the main role, almost all the capital's theaters began to invite him. As a result, the actor chose the Mayakovsky Theater, because his wife Nadezhda was immediately taken there with him, but most importantly, they were given a three-room apartment on Smolenskaya Square.

Vladimir Samoilov shone on stage, but Nadezhda Fedorovna got only minor roles. The husband felt guilty before her, but he could not ask for himself and for her. When the wife was discharged from the hospital after the tumor was removed and dreamed of returning to the stage as soon as possible, it suddenly turned out that Nadezhda Samoilova had been taken out of the troupe and had already been retired. Vladimir Yakovlevich's attempt to talk with artistic director Andrei Goncharov led to the fact that the actor himself had to put a letter of resignation on the table.

At first, cinema saved him from despair, but Vladimir Samoilov always considered himself a theatrical actor, and the film set could not completely replace the scene. The theater was the main business of his life, and without him the actor withers before his eyes. Then the wife and son invited Vladimir Yakovlevich to go home to Odessa.

It was there that the famous actor almost took his own life. He returned from his hometown completely devastated and confused. And he confessed to his wife and son: he almost committed suicide. In Odessa, everyone recognized him, greeted him, invited him to visit, asked for autographs, but he could not cope with the feeling of deep uselessness. In the evening he came to the bay, where he dived as a child, entered the water and decided to go far, far, to the very horizon. Until the sea takes him

He was already walking towards the setting sun, until the thought of his wife and son occurred to him. Memories of loved ones and the suffering that he can inflict on them made the actor stop and then return to the shore. After returning to Moscow, Vladimir Yakovlevich confessed to Nadezhda Fedorovna and his son Alexander that he could never return to them again.

Salvation for the actor was an invitation to the Moscow Gogol Drama Theater, received from Sergei Yashin, who actually saved Vladimir Samoilov from the most severe depression. He was immediately introduced into the repertoire, he appeared on stage in several productions, and with a play based on O'Neill's play “A Long Day Leaves into Night” he even went on tour in America.

In the late nineties, Vladimir Samoilov continued to serve in the theater, but Nadezhda Fyodorovna became very weak and was already living in her own illusory world. The husband had to look after her like a child, but he never complained.

And in September 1999, he had a stroke, which the actor did not suffer. It seems that Nadezhda Samoilova then did not understand that her husband, with whom she lived together for more than half a century, would never again be with her. However, two months later she left after him. Now Vladimir and Nadezhda Samoilovs rest side by side at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.

When in 1967 the film "Wedding in Malinovka" was released on the screens of cinemas, it was watched by a record number of viewers - 74.5 million people. Interestingly, at Dovzhenko's studio, the picture was considered too frivolous and refused to shoot, so the shooting moved to Lenfilm. Today, many of the actors who starred in the comedy are no longer alive, and the film is still very popular and the audience's love.
