Lisa and Scott Cylinder (Lisa & Scott Cylinder) have been a couple both in life and in work for more than twenty years. They manage not to see the beauty in the most unexpected things, but also to convey this vision to the viewer. Their "Art Jewelry" is definitely more than just hand-made jewelry, they are real works of art, moreover, made of the most inconspicuous materials.
Lisa and Scott give their jewelry "a strange place somewhere between logic and intuition." Sometimes an idea first appears, starting from which the choice of materials is made, in other cases it is the material that is primary, looking at which images of future works are born. Couple Seelinder says that they never limit themselves to the selection and research of various materials, wherever they are found and produced. Each piece in the "Art Jewelry" series is a small sculpture, but at the same time the authors make sure that this piece of jewelry is wearable.
Lisa Silinder says that when she was little, her grandfather had a chest with all sorts of things: dice, pencils, dominoes, cigars, cards and other similar things. It was these childhood memories that inspired her to create unusual jewelry. Indeed, what else to make brooches, pins and necklaces, if not from the contents of the "grandfather's chest"? So the old smoking pipe turned into a funny bird, and from the parts of a simple pencil a beetle turned out. “It's so much fun,” Lisa says of these extraordinary transformations.
Scott and Lisa Silinder began their collaboration in 1988, shortly after graduating from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. “We are inspired by the place where we live and work,” say the masters. - Our works are stories about the habits and inhabitants of this world, including about people existing simultaneously in the natural and man-made worlds. Moreover, these works are a metaphor for our partnership in life and work. These decorations combine everything that is dear to us as artists, parents and spouses."
