Every real man should be able to hammer in a nail. For British resident Marcus Levine, this is not a problem: he has already hammered thousands of nails in his life. No, he doesn't make stools or tables, as one might think. Our today's hero is a representative of the creative profession, and nails serve as material for his unusual sculptures.
Most of the sculptures by Marcus Levin are depictions of male or female figures in various poses. Marcus finished his first sculpture of nails in 2005, and since then the author has tried to improve his technique with each new work. One sculpture can take up to 3, 5 thousand nails driven in at different depths and at different distances. The more the author practices, the more complex objects he tries to take for the image next time.
Realizing that nails are a rather unusual material for creativity, the author explains his choice as follows: "The interaction between hard, angular nails and the soft curves of the human torso is simply stunning." In fact, Levin's ability to perfectly accurately convey all the bends of the body with the help of sharp and stiff objects simply cannot but arouse admiration. The author is so good at creating muscular and graceful figures that the verdict is unambiguous - this is talent.
An integral part of the work of Marcus Levin is the play of light and shadow. “From dawn to dusk, shadows falling on sculptures change and affect contrasts. I manipulate the artificial light source, you can make the sculptures light, like a light pencil sketch, or as dark as a charcoal drawing,”says the author.
And of course, the answer to a question of interest to many: “I regularly hit my own fingers with a hammer,” says Markus Levin. "So you can say that I suffer for the sake of art."
