Notre dame cathedral - This is one of the greatest architectural structures of the Middle Ages and one of the most famous Christian churches in general. And in The Netherlands there is an exact copy of this cathedral - De groene kathedraal … But it was not made of stones, but of trees.
We have repeatedly told you on the pages of the site Kulturologia. Ru about various places of worship. For example, we did a selection of Gothic cathedrals in France or talked about a series of photographs of churches from the German photographer Dirk Wiedlei. Today we will tell you about a very unusual cathedral in the Netherlands - De Groene Kathedraal (Green Cathedral).
The history of this "cult building" began in 1987, when the Dutch artist Marinus Boezem planted 178 poplars in the south of the Dutch province of Flevoland (the drained area of the Zuidersee Bay). Moreover, he landed them in a special sequence, so that their location repeated the design features of Notre Dame Cathedral. And when a forest adjacent to this object was planted, a clearing was formed in it, repeating the size and shape of De Groene Kathedraal.
For ten years Boyzem diligently guarded De Groene Kathedraal, cared for and cherished him, not letting strangers into the territory of the object. And in 1997, when the trees grew to a height of 30 meters (poplars grow at a record pace, and 30 meters is the height of the Cathedral in Reims, another famous French cathedral), he opened the object for visiting.
Visitors to the Green Cathedral are invited to walk along stone paths specially created for them. There is also something like an altar in De Groene Kathedraal - a place where anyone can pray to God. After all, this is a Cathedral!
Knowing that the age of poplars is short-lived, Marinus Boyzem has already begun to create another green cathedral, which will be located in the immediate vicinity of De Groene Kathedraal, and the opening of which will most likely take place in another ten years.

Only a year has passed since a fire nearly destroyed the heart of France - the famous Parisian Notre Dame Cathedral. On July 18, a fire broke out in the Nantes Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. All of the city's firefighters were called in to put out the fire that was devouring the French "gothic pearl," as Emmanuel Macron put it. Why the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral is under threat: Coronavirus, marauders, etc
At the end of March, thieves climbed into Notre Dame Cathedral, which has not been rebuilt after last year's fire. And no wonder: at a time when the inhabitants of the French capital are sitting in their houses on self-isolation and the streets are practically empty, the likelihood of looting is very high. We can safely assume that in the current situation, attempts to penetrate into the historic building by strangers will continue. Moreover, this is not the only problem of Notre Dame Cathedral, which worries the clergyman
How Notre Dame de Paris is being restored after a fire and will it be possible to do it
Until recently, work was in full swing near Notre Dame Cathedral, even if one did not even have to think about a complete restoration, the construction and the bustle of workers around the building were the personification of hope. Now the wind plays in the dilapidated walls and emits an eerie melody, penetrating the crevices and other destruction that the fire left behind. There are no streams of tourists who, even in spite of the fire that happened in the old building a year ago, did not lose interest in it and were eager to be photographed ok
