Derek Toye - a photographer from Ontario (Canada), the author of a series of black and white photographs in which an atmosphere of calm and desolation reigns. Most often, in the frame you can see lonely trees, roads that snake away beyond the horizon, or houses that look abandoned. Contemplation, mystery and meditativeness are what characterizes Derek Toje's work in general.
Derek Toje pays special attention to open spaces. The photographs have an atmosphere of tranquility, this is a kind of visualization of loneliness and solitude. In some shots, the dark branches of the trees contrast with the snow-white sky, in others they barely cut through the veil of fog.
The black and white color palette allows Derek Toya to transform colorful landscapes into expressive scenes, quiet and brooding, filled with light sadness. The viewer gets the opportunity to concentrate on texture, shape and play of light and shadow.
Derek Toje's works are close to the photographs of Vassilis Tangulis from the "White Silence" series, about which we have already told the readers of the site Culturology. RF.
