The painting "Belarus" by the Novosibirsk artist, ideologist of "Monstrations" Artyom Loskutov "Belarus", made in the technique of "cudgel painting" and representing a white canvas with blood-red stripes, went under the hammer for 3 million rubles to an anonymous buyer from Russia. The artist promised to send half of the amount to Belarusians. The starting price was 1 ruble.

The picture resembles the white-red-white flag of independent Belarus in 1991-1995, which became a symbol of the opposition in the country. The technique of "cudgel painting" was invented by Loskutov in 2019: the artist hits the canvas several times with a rubber truncheon with paint applied to it. The first work in this technique was created in August 2019 after the dispersal of protests against the non-admission of independent candidates to the elections to the Moscow City Duma.

Loskutov decided to paint a picture in the wake of the events in Belarus, "looking at the unprecedented violence of the Belarusian security forces against their citizens." “I will send half of the money to the victims of the beatings. The Belarusians have announced a collection, I would like to support them not only with symbols and creativity, but also with money,” the artist told Rise. The sum of 3 million rubles for Loskutov's paintings of the "cudgel painting" series is a record.

The painting will be handed over to the new owner early next week. According to Loskutov, the buyer has so far asked to remain anonymous. “But I think that soon the work will be available for viewing in one of the museums,” the artist believes. He noted that he did not count on such a large amount, expecting "15 times less."
