One of the foreign publications told about the latest excavations by archaeologists in the city of Pompeii. During the work, the specialists managed to get into the private house of one of the richest residents of the city. This house is called the "House of Jupiter". During excavations on the territory of this house, valuable frescoes and decorative elements were discovered.
The archaeologists who take part in the excavations said that they were surprised at the good condition of the frescoes, because they are already many years old - two thousand years old, and besides, they still had to survive the volcanic eruption, which completely destroyed the city. It was also noted that all the works of art that were in the neighboring house were damaged by fire.
Casa di Giove is one of the largest archaeological sites in the city of Pompeii. The first excavations in the rich house were carried out by specialists back in the 18th century. The area for work is very large, and therefore excavations are still being carried out on it. The ancient ruins were given the name "House of Jupiter" after a painting that was discovered during work in the garden temple. It depicts the ancient Roman god.
To decorate the house, the inlaid style of ancient Roman painting was used, on the basis of which it can be concluded that the decoration was carried out in 150-80 BC. The peculiarity of this type of finish is that the walls of the building are covered with tiles that imitate masonry using marble slabs. The central part of the house is surrounded by rooms decorated with yellow, red and green inlays.
During excavations, archaeologists have discovered more rooms that were built a little later, as evidenced by their style. During the work, specialists discovered not only ancient frescoes, but also coins, tiles, glass decorations, heads of terracotta lions. During the last work, archaeologists managed to excavate the area around the "House of Jupiter", a sidewalk located in the neighborhood and a small street.
The eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which caused the entire city of Pompeii, occurred in 79 AD. Pyroclastic flows led to the destruction of the city. The remains of the city and people were buried in a thick layer of volcanic ash. This area has been of great interest to archaeologists for many years.
