The reincarnation of Cheburashka and Gena the Crocodile, so beloved by Soviet children and already a little forgotten in our time, took place. And it happened again in Japan. Recall that 17 years ago, the Japanese company SP International bought the rights to the cult Soviet cartoon from our Soyuzmultfilm until 2023. And it was in the country of samurai, and not here, that the continuation of the story about the beloved Soviet cartoon heroes came out 10 years ago. Yesterday, in honor of the anniversary of this event, the Japanese presented the premiere of the new adventures of Gena and Cheburashka. This time in 3D.

The TV series about Teburashika amassed millions of views

The Japanese fascination with Cheburashka was long, but, as the inhabitants of this country themselves say, it was not at all massive. Although the Russians perceived the purchase of the rights to the cartoon as the popular love of the Japanese for Soviet characters, in fact, from the good-natured crocodile and his touching friend, somewhat reminiscent of either a Teletubbie or a Pokemon, he was a fan (and, I must say, continues to be a fan) only a certain circle of Japanese fans.

- Well, this is about the same hobby as the interest of Russians in Pokemon, which flared up in you some time ago, but still did not take root en masse, - say the inhabitants of Japan.

Nevertheless, in 2010, Japanese animators, together with their South Korean colleagues, released a series of hand-drawn cartoons called "Teburashika arere?" ("What is this Cheburashka?"). The series was broadcast on TV Tokyo, cartoons gained tens of millions of views on Youtube, the Japanese left enthusiastic comments. Here are just a few of them: “I love Chebu, as well as Gena”, “Cheburashka has such a cute voice!”, And some wrote that they were waiting for the continuation.

However, it is difficult to understand what touched the Japanese fans so much in the seemingly hastily drawn figures, only vaguely similar to Soviet cartoon heroes. However, in the same 2010, a full-length cartoon "Gena the Crocodile" was filmed in Japan. It was he who was shown in Russia in 2014. From the point of view of animation, the new cartoon turned out to be as close as possible to the Soviet "progenitor" and was very highly appreciated by the majority of Russians - they say, with dignity, high quality, touching and made with great respect for the original source. And now - a new version of the adventures of Cheburashka and Gena …

Cheburashka and Gena: reboot

The plot of the cartoon, released yesterday, April 22, is simple. As in the Soviet counterpart, Gena discovers a Cheburashka in a box with oranges received from friends. At the same time, they are in the zoo, where an animal show is held for visitors. The setting is very similar to Tokyo's Ueno Zoo, which does periodically organize similar shows with pandas and penguins. Gena and Cheburashka dress up in the costumes of these animals, presenting themselves as them.

The cartoon also has an educational component - the heroes add up a "friend's food rating" on a stand of stars, which shows which animals eat what.

An interesting plot with a crying boy, who, by the way, has a European appearance and sky-blue eyes. To calm the child down, Gena begins to play his "trademark" accordion, and Cheburashka starts to dance, which delights the boy.

Cheburashka is voiced by Kugumi Rei, Gena - by Sakurai Takahiro, however, this does not mean anything to the Russians. Also, the Russian viewer will hardly understand and be close to dressing up "Soviet" heroes in costumes of penguins and pandas and their attempts to gnaw bamboo.

According to experts, the video is rather amateur - there is no great professionalism in it. But a certain circle of fans of Cheburashka and Gena will surely like it. Moreover, the authors of the cartoon promise the first 300 viewers who watched the new cartoon, to give Amazon certificates for 500 Japanese yen.

Meanwhile, today, a day after the Japanese premiere, the Soyuzmultfilm studio officially announced that it intends to raise the issue of revising the right to use the image of Cheburashka, which was provided by the previous management of the Japanese film studio.

The chairman of the board of Soyuzmultfilm, Yuliana Slashcheva, said that her eastern colleagues had already been notified of this. She clarified that the Russian side considers the current version of the agreement to be invalid, but the difficulty lies in the fact that the document was drawn up in accordance with Japanese law and all legal proceedings must take place in Japan.

Not so long ago, Cheburashka celebrated 50. And in this regard, the creators of the cartoon said, who is actually involved in the birth of the popular cartoon heroes from "Cheburashka".
