Most of all, in winter, people lack not so much vitamins as greens and paints. That is why the world seems gray, dull, which greatly affects the psyche and mood of a person. Here in order to at least slightly reduce the winter depression of New Yorkers, the artist Will Ryman and installed several sculptures in the form of blooming roses.
March 8 is not celebrated in the United States of America. Apparently, this is why the flower sculptures from Will Ryman appeared not in the spring, but at the end of January. After all, the townspeople need bright colors in winter, and not when the snow melts and real, living plants begin to bloom.
The construction of these unusual sculptures was initiated by Will Ryman himself, as well as the Kasmin art gallery, the city's Department of Parks and Recreation, as well as the Park Avenue Sculpture Committee, which financed it all. The name of this project is quite banal, but informative - "The Rores" ("Roses").
So right in the middle of an unprecedented snowy winter in New York on Park Avenue, between 57th and 67th streets, a whole rose garden by Will Ryman appeared. Several sculptural groups were installed here - a total of 38 pink and red roses, as well as twenty fallen petals.
Of course, the sizes of these sculptures differ significantly from the real rose flowers. It is from one meter to seven and a half meters in height and from one and a half to three meters in diameter. The stems of these artificial roses are made of stainless steel and the buds are made of glass cloth and brass.
However, this technical part is not noticeable from the outside. People just see roses, huge beautiful flowers in the middle of the gray, slushy streets of winter New York. And can the giant metal roses confuse people who have already seen the giant aerial figures Kaikai and Kiki from Takashi Murakami?
These artificial roses will delight the eyes of residents and visitors to the city until spring, until real flowering plants appear, and then they will be dismantled and moved to the Kasmin gallery, as well as to several other exhibition halls in the United States.
