Brazilian footballers make up almost half of all professional footballers in the world. Moreover, in Brazil itself, the football infrastructure leaves much to be desired. An example of this - satellite photo seriescompiled by the artist Joachim Schmid and named "O Campo" ("Glade").

Thanks to the Google Earth program and the Google Maps service, satellite images of the Earth have become the property of all of Mankind. And every inhabitant of the planet, having access to the Internet, can explore the globe without leaving his own home. So the artists have mastered Google maps for their needs. For example, Clement Valla, who creates distorted reality postcards from Google Earth, or members of the Planet Money blog, exploring the impact of the World Financial Crisis on Florida's appearance.

So the artist Joachim Schmid recently presented his own satellite series, which he called "O Campo" ("Glade"), depicting unusual football fields in Brazilian cities. To say that football in Brazil is popular is to say nothing! After all, this is the meaning of life for millions of citizens of this country, their main hobby, religion. Proof of this can be seen in hundreds of thousands of football grounds, which have found a place in the dense development of poor urban areas, where there is not enough space even for houses, schools and just streets, but there is enough space for football fields.

True, in conditions of incredible tightness, these fields do not always have the correct shape. Limited space greatly affects the size and shape of football pitches in poorer areas of Brazilian cities. These fields for playing football have, at times, rather strange shapes and, accordingly, markings that had to be adapted to the curvature of the fields.

But the poor quality of football pitches and their strange shapes, as experience shows, has little effect on the talent of the people playing on them. After all, most of the famous Brazilian football players grew up and honed their football skills on such far from ideal fields, living in these socially disadvantaged areas. And external conditions did not prevent real talents from breaking out into people, becoming professional players with fame and money. It is about this paradox that Joachim Schmid wanted to tell by creating a series of satellite photographs "O Campo".
